Must-Bet & Avoid Games: College Football Week 3 Odds and Analysis

Stay up to date for the NCAAF Week 3 Odds! If you had Northern Illinois beating Notre Dame under the watchful eye of Touchdown Jesus as one of your sports betting picks, you’re a smarter prognosticator than we are – and then most of the wagering community.

Even with a 12-team playoff now, it will be hard for Notre Dame to get back in the good graces of the selection committee after that 16-14 setback.

Another surprise has been the arrival of legitimate defense at USC as Lincoln Riley finally replaced DC Alex Grinch with D’Anton Lynn from UCLA.

That defense just held LSU to 20 points in a neutral-site upset win in Vegas, and they shut down Utah State, one of the better mid-major offenses in the nation.

What will we see in Week 3? For starters, we have some games you should bet on, and some you should leave alone.

NCAAF Week 3 Odds: Games You Should Bet and Avoid

Bet: Washington Huskies (-4.5) at Washington State Cougars

When: Saturday, September 14, 3:30 PM, Peacock

Normally, we would expect to see the Apple Cup on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but the dissolution of the Pac-12 has seen these two rivals’ conference affiliation changed.

The Huskies, of course, are now in the Big Ten, while Washington State is part of a bizarre sort of Pac-2, along with Oregon State, set to play a mostly MWC schedule this year before an independent existence in 2025.

Washington has won nine of the last ten meetings, but the Cougars should come out with plenty of passion, as the anger in this rivalry has gotten even more intense.

Washington rolled over Weber State, 35-3, and then routed Eastern Michigan, 30-9, in their first two games.

Will Rogers transferred in from Mississippi State as quarterback, and he has 511 passing yards and five touchdown passes in two games.

Washington State is a tough place to win, but the Huskies have the offense and the talent to do it.

NCAAF Pick: Washington to win and cover.

Avoid: Tulane Green Wave (+1) at Oklahoma Sooners

When: Saturday, September 14, 3:30 PM, ESPN

Tulane led Kansas State at home last week at the half, 20-10. It helped that the Wildcat defense was able to pry away two turnovers in the fourth quarter, one that created the winning score and the other to save the win in the last five seconds of regulation.

Tulane showed they can move the ball against tough defenses like Kansas State’s in the Big 12. With improved ball security, Tulane can defeat top teams from Power 4 conferences despite changes in coaching and players.

Oklahoma demolished Temple, 51-3, in their opener, but then when Houston came to town last week, the Sooners escaped with a 16-12 win.

That suggests a severe potential problem in terms of offensive output. On the other hand, Tulane fought K-State hard at home, and Norman is a difficult road environment.

This game is too tough for me to read at this point spread.

Bet: Ole Miss Rebels (-23.5) at Wake Forest Demon Deacons

When: Saturday, September 14, 6:30 PM, The CW Network

The Mississippi offense is one of the best in the nation. They won their first two games by a combined score of 128-3.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart has gotten to rest for considerable parts of both of those games, but he still has 795 passing yards and six touchdown passes without an interception.

Tailback Henry Parrish Jr has only needed 22 carries to pick up 205 combined rushing yards and four touchdowns, and the Rebels are 5-1 in their last six games against the spread against ACC teams.

Wake Forest permitted 31 points in a home loss to Virginia last week, including 14 points to blow a 13-point lead at the start of the third quarter.

NCAAF Pick: Ole Miss to win and cover.
