#13 Ole Miss at Auburn NCAAF Odds for Week 8

#13 Ole Miss at Auburn NCAAF Odds for Week 8

Ole Miss (5-1, 2-1 SEC) has not beaten Auburn (3-3, 0-3 SEC) in consecutive games since 1950-1952. They’ve only beaten the Tigers eight times since then – eight wins in 70 seasons – but one of those wins came last year at Ole Miss, as the Rebels won, 48-34. Auburn took a beating from LSU last week, while Ole Miss edged out LSU in a track meet-style offensive shootout earlier this season. Coming into this showdown, Ole Miss scores 14 more points per game than Auburn. They come in as 6 ½-point road favorites, and the Rebels are 23-5 straight up under head coach Lane Kiffin when favored to win. Don’t miss our NCAAF betting preview between Ole Miss vs Auburn.

Why should you bet on the Rebels?

Jaxson Dart has thrown for 1,638 yards and posted an impressive 12:2 TD:INT ratio while completing 64.1% of his passes. He has shown a lot of mobility as well, running for 302 yards and scoring four times on the ground. Tailback Quinshon Judkins leads the team in rushing with 443 yards and six touchdowns. He has caught a dozen passes out of the backfield for 102 yards and another touchdown. The top wide receiver is Jordan Watkins, with 36 catches for 536 yards and a pair of scores. Dayton Wade has caught 27 balls for 390 yards and two touchdowns, and Tre Harris has 17 catches for 367 yards and six scores.

Ole Miss was just 4-9 against the spread last year, but they did go 7-3 straight up in games in which they were moneyline favorites. They have combined with their opponents to go over 55 points in three of their six games so far in 2023. They come in off the bye week after having held off Arkansas at home, 27-20, two weeks ago. They have scored 27 or more points in each of their wins; the lone exception came in a 24-10 loss at Alabama on September 23.

Why should you put your money on the Tigers?

Auburn started out with three wins in non-conference play, but the choice to schedule Homecoming against FCS opponent Samford and to hold their other two non-SEC games against UMass and Cal should have been signs that Auburn was not expecting to get a lot of wins out of the SEC slate. They lost at Texas A&M to open conference play, 27-10, but then impressed a national television audience, losing by just seven points at home to Georgia the next week. They came out of their bye to take on LSU on the road, and that did not go well, as LSU rolled by 30.

Payton Thorne is more of a running quarterback than a passing one; he has 745 passing yards and a 60.7% completion rate, but he also has thrown four interceptions to go along with four touchdowns. He has run for 225 yards and two scores – and he is the team’s leading rusher. Jarquez Hunter has 218 rushing yards and three scores. The top receiver is Jay Fair, with 232 yards on 21 catches with a pair of scores. Rivaldo Fairweather has caught 16 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown.

Ole Miss vs Auburn Final Score and Prediction

Given the ease with which LSU was able to take Auburn apart, it’s hard to see Ole Miss failing to take advantage of this opportunity. Auburn stood tall against Georgia, but the Bulldogs also committed some key turnovers to help the Tigers stay close. Given the nature of this rivalry, a one-touchdown line seems high, though. I predict a final score of Ole Miss 24, Auburn 20.
