#11 Alabama at Texas A&M NCAAF Odds for Week 6

#11 Alabama at Texas A&M NCAAF Odds for Week 6

This weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide return to the site of one of the program’s toughest recent losses – Kyle Field. They face the unranked Texas A&M Aggies, but both teams come in with identical records of 4-1 (2-0 SEC). When the Aggies upset the Tide two years ago, the Aggies were unranked – while the Tide were the top-ranked team in the nation. In a Tuesday press conference, Alabama head coach Nick Saban noted that he has been challenging his players to be “locked in” all week long in practice to prepare for the challenge of playing a tough team in an intimidating road environment. The crowd at Kyle Field has long been known as the “12th Man” on the field, and the Tide represent a major rival. How will this Alabama vs Texas A&M play out? Don’t miss our NCAAF betting preview.

Why should you bet on the Crimson Tide?

Ever since Alabama permitted 34 points in their home loss to Texas, the defense has played at a new level. That includes a 24-10 beating of Ole Miss – the same Ole Miss team that hung 55 on LSU last week. The Tide also held Mississippi State under 270 yards of offense this past weekend. Texas A&M has yet to face a defense like this. Auburn’s unit is tough, but the Aggies were still able to log 27 points. Miami and Arkansas don’t have defenses on the Tide’s level, either. The pass rush is making quarterbacks’ lives miserable, and the secondary has upgraded its coverage after Texas’ Quinn Ewers found targets all over the field.

On offense, Alabama had turmoil at the quarterback position. Jalen Milroe was sent to the bench after the loss to Texas and got to watch the Tide beat South Florida. He returned to start against Ole Miss and Mississippi State and completed almost 80% of his passes in those two games. If he can put up similar numbers playing at Kyle Field, then we’ll know that the Tide have found their offensive leader for the rest of the season.

Why should you put your money on the Aggies?

When the Aggies lost to the Miami Hurricanes, the game turned into a track meet as the defenses receded and the offenses traded blows, with the Hurricanes getting the last laugh. Since then, the Aggies have played well. The offensive attack has been balanced, which means that the win over Arkansas would have been much more emphatic without those three turnovers. The defense has locked things down for three straight games, something we haven’t seen much of under Jimbo Fisher.

In fact, the Aggies’ D leads the SEC right now. They aren’t permitting long drives, and the secondary has elevated its play since the Miami loss. The Aggies have the third best third-down conversion percentage rate of any defense in the nation. On offense, the team is getting a lot more out of OC Bobby Petrino than many of his detractors might have predicted.

Alabama vs Texas A&M Final Score and Prediction

It’s important to remember that it has been 16 years since Alabama lost two games before the middle of October – that came in 2007, when Nick Saban was in his first season in Tuscaloosa. Ball security is something Alabama has mastered, and the team has an edge to it after losing at home to Texas. I expect Alabama and Texas A&M both to get some big plays on offense, but I think Alabama will get more of them. I predict a final score of Alabama 27, Texas A&M 23.
