Why Bet on TCU?

From a preseason top-25 ranked team to a 5-5 team that is grappling for bow eligibility, it is clear as daylight that the Horned Frogs have been a mighty disappointment to their fans this season. As far as talent goes, TCU has it all, as was showcased when they blew out the #17 Baylor Bears in a 62-22 victory less than three weeks ago, or when they hanged tough in a respectable 52-46 loss to the conference-leading Oklahoma Sooners earlier this season. Unfortunately, TCU players seemingly play in moods, showing up in one game and falling flat in another. This, essentially, is the reason the Frogs came from hanging 62 points on Baylor on the road to getting hammered 31-6 by Oklahoma State at home last week. There is therefore no sure of way of telling how high the Frogs will leap in this game. But if the good version of Kenny Hill, Kyle Hicks and the Frogs show up this weekend, then a win should be within the strong realms of possibility for this bowl-hunting squad.

Why Bet on Texas?

Like TCU, the Longhorns have been an up-and- down bunch, losing respectably to the Sooners and Mountaineers, and also beating Baylor and Texas Tech in some of their memorable performances of the season while sucking big-time in losses against the likes of Kansas State and last week’s unfathomable defeat to the Jayhawks. This inconsistency is the reason why Coach Charlie Strong’s job will be on the line when Texas hosts TCU on Friday. Led by the nation’s leading rusher in stud tailback D’Onta Foreman (1863 rushing yards and 15 TDs on 292 carries) and a serviceable QB in Shane Buechele, the Texans can be very dangerous on when they are on song. But then again, it all remains to be seen if the Longhorns will come up big or fall flat against the Horned Frogs on Friday.

Expert Predictions and Picks

The Longhorns and the Horned Frogs have arguably been two of the most inconsistent and unpredictable teams in the Big 12 this season, so it comes as no surprise that none of them appears to be attracting confidence in the SU or ATS lines. But if something’s gotta give, then we’ll have to lean on the Longhorns, who’ve been a fairly dependable home team with a 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS record, in comparison to the Horned Frogs, who are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS on the road this season. Plus, with Texas looking too play strongly for Strong (no pun intended), we expect the players and the home crowd to be rallied up for a winning performance. Your safest bet, though, would probably be banking on the OVER side of the total, as there’ll be a lot on the line for both teams, which should translate into a shootout as both defenses (Texas allowing 31.5 PPG, TCU allowing 29.4 PPG) are sternly tested by the two offenses (Texas scoring 34.2 PPG, TCU scoring 34.3 PPG).
