The Clemson Tigers had not lost a regular-season game since 2017, when they were upset at Syracuse. That ended at Notre Dame, when the Fighting Irish beat Clemson, 47-40 in double overtime. Clemson had actually mounted a furious comeback in the second half to lead, 33-26, but then they had a late drive that only lasted 22 seconds, thanks to a holding penalty and a boneheaded decision by Travis Etienne to run out of bounds, and the Irish had enough time to pull off a 91-yard touchdown drive to force the extra frame. In the SEC, Florida spanked Georgia to take the edge in the East Division.
As we look to Week 11, here are our top college football betting picks against the spread.
NCAA News: Top ATS Picks for Week 11
Notre Dame (-13) at Boston College
BC is an odd team. They went up 18 at Clemson two weeks ago before the Tigers fought all the way back for the win, but then they struggled to put away Syracuse this past week. Maybe they were looking ahead to the matchup with Notre Dame, so we’ll see. Could this be a trap game for the Irish? BC to cover.
Alabama (-22.5) at LSU
A year ago, Joe Burrow led the LSU Tigers to a huge win at Alabama, in a shootout. However, after losing both coordinators and Burrow, the Tigers are a mess, particularly on defense and especially in the secondary. Mac Jones has stepped in quite nicely at quarterback for the Crimson Tide, putting up huge numbers almost every week. So while this line might irritate LSU fans, it is a realistic look at this game — and it should probably be a little higher. Alabama to win and cover.
Oregon (-7.5) at Washington State
Washington State no longer has Mike Leach at the helm, which means that the wacky surprises on offense are over. Washington State beat Oregon State in their opener, behind a huge night from tailback Deon McIntosh. Oregon has a stout defense, so it will be interesting to see how the Ducks do on the road in their second game. Ducks to win and cover.
Ohio State (-24.5) at Maryland
How about Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa? After getting demolished at Northwestern in their opener, he’s gotten better each week, leading the Terrapins to an overtime win over Minnesota and then going to Penn State and leading an emphatic win over a Nittany Lions team that has fallen all the way out of the Top 25 after beginning the season in the Top 10. Tagovailoa has the arm to keep up with Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Ohio State should win, but by 3 ½ touchdowns? Maryland to cover.
Miami (FL) (+2) at Virginia Tech
Miami is ranked #9 in the nation. They’re really going to be a road dog against a team that lost at home to Liberty last week? Miami has struggled to put up offense against other unranked opponents, so this may be more a problem with their ranking than with this line. Virginia Tech to win and cover.
Indiana (-9) at Michigan State
Which Michigan State team is going to show up this week? They’ve lost to Rutgers at home and gotten demolished by Iowa. In between, they went to Ann Arbor and dominated Michigan. Indiana comes in as one of three unbeatens left in the Big Ten. Their offense has been high-octane, and the Michigan State defense has looked lackluster in their two losses. Indiana to win and cover.
Auburn (-13.5) at Mississippi State
The gloss on Mike Leach’s time at Mississippi State may already have worn off. In their opener, they scored 44 points against LSU in what was, at the time, seen as a huge upset. Since then, in their last four games, the Bulldogs have scored 54 points combined, including 24 in a win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. That includes a home loss to Arkansas in their second game that was even more shocking than their win over LSU. In comes an Auburn team has won two in a row, over Ole Miss and LSU, after losing at South Carolina, the first time they had lost to the Gamecocks since 1933. We know Auburn can score; we don’t know if the Bulldogs can keep up. Auburn to win and cover.
