As the college football world waits for the return of the Pac-12 and the Big Ten, there is very little that has remained consistent in the sport. LSU, the defending national champion, is now 1-2 after losing to Mississippi State and Missouri, thanks to a porous defense, and could have a hard time gaining bowl eligibility depending on how they fare in the SEC West. Neither Texas nor Oklahoma is in the Top 25 rankings after Oklahoma beat then-#22 Texas in quadruple overtime on Saturday — but North Carolina is ranked fifth, their highest national ranking since 1997. What can we expect to see in Week 6?

NCAA News: Top ATS Picks for Week 7
Clemson (-27) at Georgia Tech
Saturday, October 17

ABC
Georgia Tech beat Louisville on the road by 19 points last week. Given that Georgia Tech runs an offense that is ground-based, that’s a huge number of points. Clemson shut down Miami last week, but the Tigers had their share of problems, as they had three field goals blocked (with one returned for a touchdown). They also struggled with a running quarterback on the other team against Virginia two weeks ago. They were able to hold Miami’s D’Eriq King in check this past weekend, but Georgia Tech’s offense could cause the Tigers some fits. After shutting down Miami, I see Clemson taking their foot off the gas this week, and I’m liking Georgia Tech to cover.
Pitt (+10.5) at Miami (FL)
Saturday, October 17

ESPN ACC Network
Miami lost to Clemson by 25 points in a game in which many expected the Hurricanes to give Clemson something approaching a test. Miami could still win the Coastal Division of the ACC and meet Clemson for the conference championship, but that’s way down the line. For now, the Hurricanes have to deal with a Pitt team that can surprise teams who underestimate them. Of course, they can also drop games that they were expected to win, such as just happened in their loss to Boston College. Miami could come into this game looking to take out some frustrations on the Panthers, or they could be feeling sorry for themselves and take a hide-tanning on their home field. I like Miami to win and cover.
LSU (+11.5) at Florida
Saturday, October 17

ESPN
LSU is already unranked after three games this season after that shocking loss at Missouri. Florida also took an unexpected “L” this past weekend, heading to the Lone Star State to face a Texas A&M team that lost by 28 points to Alabama the week before, only to lose. Florida remains alive for the SEC East and a shot at the SEC Championship, while LSU needs this win to turn things around toward bowl eligibility at this point and to keep the season from going down the drain. I like Florida to win and cover.
Georgia (+6) at Alabama
Saturday, October 17
8:00 pm ET
CBS
This game is the only matchup featuring two ranked teams this weekend, and it also matches up the last two undefeated SEC teams. The Alabama offense has been lights out so far this season — while the Georgia defense has smothered opponents through three games. Alabama had a hard time dispatching Ole Miss, giving up 45 points in the win, so it will be interesting to see how they deal with a Georgia offense that can move the ball and a Georgia defense that has beaten all comers thus far. Until Georgia can actually live up to the hype against Alabama instead of folding at crucial moments, though, I”m taking Alabama to win and cover.
