They made it unbeaten through regular-season Big 12 play, thanks to several matchups against backup quarterbacks. Reality caught up with TCU in the Big 12 Championship, where they lost to a Kansas State team that was playing a backup quarterback, but the College Football Playoff committee put TCU in the national semifinals anyway. A series of boneheaded errors by Michigan helped TCU advance to the national championship, but the Bulldogs absolutely shut the Horned Frogs down, 65-7.
