The bizarre series of scandals at the University of Michigan just continues to grow. The Wolverines’ program is already under investigation for violating recruiting rules during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now it appears that a school staffer violated a rule that dates back to 1994 and prohibits in-person advance scouting of opponents, as ESPN and other outlets have reported. Connor Stalions bought tickets in his own names for over 30 games over the last three seasons at 11 different schools in the Big Ten, and it appears that electronic devices were used to record opposing team signals and figure out upcoming plays. His purchases included tickets for this past weekend’s game between Ohio State and Penn State, but those seats remained unoccupied as the investigation became public. Coach Jim Harbaugh has said that he has no awareness of this, but a cheating scandal of this nature at the school that, at this writing, is the sports betting favorite to win the national championship, is immense. Obviously, you’ll want to consider whether wagering on Michigan makes sense, if this competitive advantage was real and is now not a part of their preparation. We have five Week 9 College Football Odds for you to consider to win big.
Week 9 College Football Odds and Top 5 Betting Picks
#4 Florida State Seminoles at Wake Forest Demon Deacons
NCAAF Lines: #4 Florida State (-20) vs Wake Forest
When: Saturday, October 28 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC
TV: ABC
Wake Forest actually has a three-game winning streak in this rivalry, but they didn’t get their first ACC win this season until this past weekend. Florida State has already been favored by 20 points in two of their ACC games so far – but has not covered in either one. This is also the Seminoles’ first road game in 31 days. The Demon Deacons have turned the ball over 16 times in seven games, but it’s hard to imagine them not getting up for Florida State at home. For these reasons, the spread seems a little rich. Demon Deacons to cover.

#6 Oklahoma Sooners at Kansas Jayhawks
NCAAF Lines: #6 Oklahoma (-10) vs Kansas
When: Saturday, October 28 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, KS
TV: FOX
Oklahoma’s defense had been mostly ironclad, but then UCF almost knocked them off in Norman last week. Kansas comes in off the bye and has had plenty of chances to check out the film of the team that almost stopped the sooners. However, Kansas depends on the run, and the Sooners’ run defense hasn’t been the problem, only permitting 252 yards combined over the last three games. The Sooners have played two road games and have covered the spread in each of them. Dillon Gabriel struggled against UCF but should bounce back here. Sooners to win and cover.

Indiana Hoosiers at #10 Penn State Nittany Lions
NCAAF Lines: Indiana (+31) vs #10 Penn State
When: Saturday, October 28 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
TV: CBS
Penn State hung with Ohio State well into the second half last week but couldn’t keep up in crunch time, bringing more questions about whether James Franklin is the right coach to lead the Nittany Lions back to national contender status. Indiana lost at Maryland and Michigan by a combined 72 points, failing to cover in either contest. These teams met the week after Penn State-Ohio State a year ago, and Penn State won, 45-14. Can the Penn State generate enough offense, though, to cover this immense spread? Hoosiers to cover.

BYU Cougars at #7 Texas Longhorns
NCAAF Lines: BYU (+17.5) vs #7 Texas
When: Saturday, October 28 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX
TV: ABC/ESPN
BYU is 0-2 straight up in road games as a new member of the Big 12 – and they lost those two games by a combined 44 points. BYU last played Texas in 2014, and they rolled to a 41-7 laugher of a win, but these are two different teams. Quinn Ewers (shoulder) is likely out, which means that Maalik Murphy will start for the first time at quarterback. That makes this line a bit high. Cougars to cover.
Bet on the BYU vs #7 Texas!
#22 Tulane Green Wave at Rice Owls
NCAAF Lines: #22 Tulane (-11.5) vs Rice
When: Saturday, October 28 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: Rice Stadium, Houston, TX
TV: ESPN2
Tulane’s defense has gotten porous, allowing 664 passing yards combined over the last two weeks. Remember that Rice’s quarterback is one-time Ohio State star J.T. Daniels, who has led the Owls to a 3-0 record against the spread as an underdog, a rout over Tulsa, and an overtime win over Big 12 foe Houston. Tulane does have a strong running defense, and quarterback Michael Pratt had his best performance running the ball on the year last week, but Daniels should be able to make this a close game. Owls to cover.
