The College Football Playoff released its third set of standings, and somehow the Washington Huskies (10-0) are still ranked behind the Florida State Seminoles (10-0), as the Seminoles hold the fourth spot and the Huskies hold the fifth. Washington took down #16 Utah last week. Florida State stopped an unranked Miami team, but the Hurricanes had more offensive yardage. Washington has the second-best strength of record as calculated by ESPN, while top-ranked Georgia has the seventh-best in the nation. It’s hard not to conclude that the committee is favoring the ACC over the Pac-12 at this point. Washington plays at #11 Oregon State this week, while Florida State takes on North Alabama. If both teams win, the Huskies would have to jump to #4. Right? Let’s look at the top three CFB National Championship matchups based on the current standings, to help you gauge your NCAAF betting choices going forward.
College Football: The Best Three CFB National Championship Based on Today’s Standings
Georgia Bulldogs vs Ohio State Buckeyes
With the return of Brock Bowers from ankle surgery, the Bulldogs seem to be turning up the heat. They rolled then-#9 Ole Miss last week, 52-17, and they will get Bowers back for their matchup with Tennessee. They finish with rival Georgia Tech on November 25 before heading to the SEC Championship, where they will face Alabama for a spot in the College Football Playoff. It’s possible that both teams would advance to the CFP if Alabama wins the conference title. In addition to Bowers coming back, tackle Amarius Mims (ankle) and wide receiver Ladd McConkey (back) should be back for Tennessee. With the Bulldogs rounding into peak form and getting their key players back, they will be a tough out in the SEC Championship or the playoff.
Remember last year’s national semifinal? Ohio State had Georgia down before the Bulldogs came back, but the Buckeyes still had a makeable (but long) field goal attempt to take the win. The kick was badly shanked, and then Georgia went on to win the title. Ohio State rolled over Michigan State last week, 38-3. Kyle McCord looks just as strong as C.J. Stroud was in running the offense, throwing for 335 yards and three touchdowns. Marvin Harrison Jr had two of those touchdowns, catching seven balls for 149 yards. The Buckeyes’ defense kept Michigan State to just 2 of 14 on third-down conversions on the day. This Buckeyes team might be a more complete roster, especially on the defensive side, than last year’s squad.

Washington Huskies vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Michigan and Ohio State won’t both stay undefeated as they play in the regular season and would also likely meet in the Big 12 Championship. It’s also hard to imagine that the CFP committee won’t rush to punish Michigan for that loss, given the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scandal that already has coach Jim Harbaugh serving his second suspension of the season. If Alabama can win the SEC Championship and Washington can win out, these teams could end up 3-4 in the standings and possibly meet in the finals.
Washington scored 35 points in their win over Utah last week – the highest total allowed by the Utes this season. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, totaling 332 passing yards. The Huskies aren’t demolishing teams like they did in the early going, but their last six contests have brought four opponents that are either currently ranked or were ranked when they met, including a victory over Oregon, the top-ranked team with one loss. That offense will make a big dent in any defense, including Alabama’s, which is not its usual ironclad unit.
Alabama stumbled early, losing at home to Texas, but that was before Jalen Milroe nailed down the quarterback position. The Crimson Tide steamrolled Kentucky on the road last week, 49-21, and Milroe became the first Tide quarterback ever to run and pass for three touchdowns in the same contest. That offense would keep up with Washington score for score, making a matchup that could come down to the last possession.

Georgia Bulldogs vs Florida State Seminoles
Florida State had to work hard to get by Miami last week, but that is a rivalry that is hard-fought just about every year. The Seminoles’ defense got a key pick with 40 seconds left to run their winning streak to 16. Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson returned, giving Jordan Travis his top two targets, and he threw for 265 yards even though he was under constant pressure. The Hurricanes got three sacks and nine tackles for loss, so it’s easy to imagine Georgia sending waves of pressure at Travis as well. The Seminoles’ defense also stood tall, though, allowing only 35 rushing yards after halftime.
