NFL Week 4 Against the Spread Betting Picks

Written by on September 25, 2018

If I had asked if you if you thought the AFC East leader would be 3-0 after three weeks, you might have agreed. However, if I had told you it would be the Miami Dolphins, with the rest of the division tied at 1-2, you might not have agreed. There are quite a few surprises so far in the first three weeks of the NFL’s regular season, not least the troubles of the Patriots and the amazing beginning for Patrick Mahomes, and there are also some trends we expected, such as the strong start from the Los Angeles Rams. Take a look at three sports betting picks we have for you against the spread for NFL week 4 action. As always, home teams are in all caps.

NFL Week 4 Against the Spread Betting Picks

Philadelphia (-3.5) over TENNESSEE

The Philadelphia Eagles picked up a gritty win over Indianapolis last week, as Carson Wentz made his season debut and threw for 255 yards, with a score and a pick. The passing game is running through tight end Zach Ertz (21 catches for 215 yards) and Nelson Agholor (20 catches for 145 yards) this season, while Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement are sharing the running game, with Ajayi more the pounding back and Clement coming in on third downs and catching passes out of the backfield. With Wentz returning, the Eagles’ offense should show more movement than it has so far. The Tennessee Titans have quarterback issues, as both Marcus Mariota and Blaine Gabbert are injured to some degree. Mariota was able to lead three drives for field goals last week against Tennessee, and that was enough to grind out a 9-6 win on a day when the Jacksonville defense really struggled. Wentz has a lot more ability at the quarterback position than Blake Bortles does, though, so the Eagles should be able to get around a team with two injured quarterbacks. NFL Week 4 Betting Prediction: Philadelphia 27, Tennessee 16

Seattle (-3) over ARIZONA

The Arizona Cardinals have one of the best tailbacks in the NFL with David Johnson, but with that iffy offensive line and inconsistency out of quarterback Sam Bradford, the Cardinals aren’t doing a whole lot on offense. Seattle looked like they were in trouble until they played Dallas last week, and Travis Lockett found himself on the receiving end of some big plays from Russell Wilson, and the Seahawks cruised. Can they keep that same focus on the road? I think that they can, at least against the Cardinals. Arizona may have a quarterback controversy on their hands, as rookie Josh Rosen came on late in the hopes of getting the Cardinals’ offense moving again. However, the Chicago defense kept the clamps on as they completed a comeback from a 14-0 deficit to win late, 16-14. Seattle has as many playmakers on offense as the Bears do, so while their defense has a few issues, they have enough to win and cover here. NFL Week 4 Betting Prediction: Seattle 23, Arizona 13

Cleveland (+2) over OAKLAND

The Browns sit at 1-1-1, but their season took a real turn when Tyrod Taylor went down with a concussion in their game against the New York Jets. Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield came on and led a dramatic comeback as a 14-0 deficit turned into a 21-17 win. Mayfield threw for 201 yards in relief of Taylor, and Jarvis Landry was his favorite target, catching eight passes for 103 yards, and Carlos Hyde provided balance on the ground, running for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Raiders are still struggling under new head coach Jon Gruden. Derek Carr did throw for 345 yards in the team’s 28-20 loss to Miami last week, but he had two interceptions to go along with his touchdown. Jordy Nelson had a huge night, catching just six passes for 173 yards and a score. The Raiders have covered the spread just once in their last five home games, and just three times in their last 12 games against AFC opposition. Their momentum is trending downward, and I’m predicting a Browns cover — and a win. NFL Week 4 Betting Prediction: Cleveland 23, Oakland 17
