We had some terrific games in Week 2 of the 2020 NFL regular season — and some huge surprises. Joe Burrow showed that he is definitely ready for play in the NFL as he almost put the Bengals on his back and delivered a win all by himself in Cleveland. Justin Herbert also showed that he is ready, as the Chargers rookie had to start at the last minute against Kansas City — and the Chiefs needed overtime to beat the Chargers on the road. In Dallas, the Cowboys had three fumbles lost and two blown fake punts, trailing 20-0 at one point, but then they roared back for a 40-39 win over Atlanta that had the Cowboys recover a bizarre onside kick.

Rumors After 2020 NFL Week 2 Games
One of the weirdest bits of news could also have a major impact on player careers, as well as the San Francisco 49ers’ ability to return to the Super Bowl. Four of the team’s key players all had to leave Sunday’s game in New York against the Jets. Edge rusher Nick Bosa blew an ACL and is done for the season. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a high ankle sprain and could miss next week’s game against the Giants, on the same field at MetLife Stadium. Raheem Mostert has an MCL sprain, and Solomon Thomas’ injury remains undiagnosed. The NFL has a field quality team looking at the turf at the stadium this week after the 49ers registered a complaint, so stay tuned as to the site of next week’s game.
There appears to be a three-way race for the first head coach to get fired. Ten of the 32 coaches in the NFL have posted 0-2 records so far, but let’s look at the top three. Dan Quinn, of the Atlanta Falcons, has seen his team crack 30 points in each of their first two games but still has yet to get a win. Blowing that lead in Dallas (and seeing his players stand around a spinning football on an onside kick instead of jumping on it) could end up being the writing on the wall for his time in Atlanta. The Falcons have definitely underperformed in comparison to their offensive talent, and Quinn was brought to town due to his defensive expertise that he showed as the defensive coordinator in Seattle.
Matt Patricia, in Detroit, is also a former defensive coordinator. He put together some ironclad units in New England. However, ever since coming to Detroit, Patricia has had difficulty putting together strings of consistent team play. Locker room arguments have boiled over into the public eye. Most importantly, the team’s defense has been rancid, as they lost to Mitch Trubisky’s Chicago Bears AND got doubled up by the Packers this weekend, losing 42-21.
Then there’s Adam Gase, of the New York Jets. He has a franchise quarterback, in Sam Darnold. He has team ownership who is willing to spend and make deals. However, he has been unable to put a competitive product on the field. The Jets saw San Francisco lose their starting quarterback and tailback in Week 2 but could not make a game competitive at home.
One final word from the injury front — Giants tailback Saquon Barkley went down in Week 2, also with a torn ACL, so he’s done for 2020. It looks like the Giants will bring in Devonta Freeman to work out at running back, so if you’re looking for a fantasy waiver wire addition, he might be one to consider. The Panthers lost tailback Christian McCaffrey in their loss to Tampa Bay, but it doesn’t look like the Panthers are going to replace him yet on the active roster, waiting instead to find out the nature and severity of his injury.
