Last weekend brought the 2022 NFL draft (and the undrafted free-agent signings). Winners included the Buffalo Bills, who took care of issues in the secondary and the running game, and the Philadelphia Eagles, who will definitely push Dallas in the NFC East this year, if not win the division outright. Losers included Baker Mayfield, who looked like he was going to Carolina before the Panthers drafted Ole Miss’ Matt Corral. Mayfield could end up in Seattle, but the Browns are likely to have to eat some or all of his $19 million in guaranteed money on his deal. Check out the early online NFL betting odds for each team to win its prospective conference and some notes coming out of the draft.

Buffalo added James Cook, the brother of former Florida State and current Minnesota Vikings great Dalvin Cook, to run the ball. Outside the draft, the Bills signed Jamison Crowder to run routes of the slot, an upgrade over Cole Beasley at that position. So this is a team that will be even harder to deal with in 2022.
The Rams did not have a pick in the first 100 draft choices, the first time that had happened since Miami had already traded away a bucket of picks ahead of the 2009 draft. The biggest question for the Rams is the fate of Odell Beckham Jr, who was a revelation for the RAms in 2022. He is a free agent right now – and he is rehabbing another reconstructed ACL.
Tampa Bay traded down into the second round and took Logan Hall at 33 and Luke Goedeke at 57. Hall could replace Ndamukong Suh quite nicely, and Goedeke could replace Ali Marpet, the Pro Bowl guard who retired a couple of months ago. Will Rob Gronkowski return? While he decides, the Bucs drafted Cade Otton in the fourth round, a potential tight end for the next decade.
Cincinnati is an interesting value pick to win the AFC after rolling to a Super Bowl last year. In free agency, they bolstered their O-line (which badly needed help) and picked up DBs Cam Taylor-Britt and Daxton Hill in the draft; if you can imagine a Bengals team with a dominant defense at all three levels, you can imagine a Bengals team that can get by the Chiefs once again.
San Francisco is pretty high up the odds list given that their quarterback from last year, Jimmy Garoppolo, is awaiting a trade, while the team prepares to give the keys to Trey Lance, and their top offensive producer, Deebo Samuel, has demanded a trade. Management has indicated that the offers for Samuel have not met their expectations, but based on NFL sources, the 49ers have been asking way too much in return. But what will an unhappy Samuel do with a rookie quarterback?
Green Bay dealt Davante Adams to Las Vegas and then went through the whole first day of the draft without adding any of the talented wide receivers that were available – and the Pack had two picks in the first round. In the 34th pick overall, the Packers got Christian Watson out of North Dakota State, and he will join Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers and Allen Lazard. Will Aaron Rodgers be able to produce at a high level without an elite receiver?
The Chargers got torched on defense last season – the only reason they missed the postseason. In free agency, they added a number of contributors, so the draft had more of an offensive focus. Zion Johnson will start this fall at guard and excels at pass protection. In the third round, the Chargers got safety J.T. Woods out of Baylor before going back to offense in the fourth round, picking tailback Isaiah Spiller, who will mesh nicely with Austin Ekeler.
