49ers vs Seahawks Prediction, Betting Odds & Expert Analysis in Week 6

NFL Game Odds: 49ers vs Seahawks TNF | The rivalry between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks is one of the newer divisional clashes, but it has produced some memorable moments.

The Seahawks entered the NFL in the 1970s but were in the AFC until 2002, when they moved into the NFC West along with the 49ers.

The teams have met 52 times, with Seattle winning 30 of them. Even when the Seahawks were suffering through four consecutive losing seasons between 2008 and 2011, they continued to play the 49ers well.

Over the next four seasons, the teams would take turns winning the NFC West, and they even met in the 2013 NFC Championship, with the Seahawks winning a 23-17 nailbiter.

Going into Week 6, the Seahawks lead the division with a 3-2 record, but they have lost two in a row, including a shocking home loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.

The 49ers have a +20 point differential but a 2-3 record after losing at home to Arizona on Sunday.

As we approach the middle of the week, don’t miss our sports betting preview of this TNF divisional clash.

San Francisco 49ers -180

While the biggest question facing the San Francisco 49ers surrounds the health of Christian McCaffrey, their run defense is another area of concern. Kyler Murray scampered for a 50-yard touchdown on the first Arizona possession. James Conner ran for 86 yards and found the end zone on a two-point conversion. The 49ers’ defense was particularly bad in the fourth quarter as they handed away a double-digit lead. That was the second time in 2024 that the 49ers lost a game to an NFC West foe that they had led by 10 or more points in the fourth quarter as they did the same thing in Week 3 against the L.A. Rams. They had only lost one divisional game over the past two seasons combined, but they are still looking for their first NFC West win this season up in Seattle.

The Offensive

Of course, the 49ers’ offense has plenty of issues as well. They took the ball into the red zone six times but only found the end zone once. During the fourth quarter, Jordan Mason coughed up a fumble that the Cardinals recovered on their own eight-yard line, which spurred Arizona to their game-winning touchdown drive. Brock Purdy went 18 for 33 for 229 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The 49ers’ other touchdown came on a blocked field goal return; this offensive drought is similar to what the 49ers went through before they traded for McCaffrey and saw their offense take off. Will his extended absence this time around harm the team’s playoff chances?

Christian McCaffrey

You might object, of course, and point out that the 49ers are second in the league in total offense for 2024. Even without McCaffrey, they rank 12th in rushing yards, and they lead the league in passing. However, those red zone numbers are concerning as they are just 29th in turning red zone visits into touchdowns. They still have disciplined play as they are fifth in fewest penalties, and their ball security is also shown by their league-best time of possession.

TNF Seattle Seahawks NFL Game Odds +146

The Seahawks’ home loss to the Giants is even harder to process when we remember that the Giants came out west without tailback Devin Singletary or rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers. Even so, the Giants put together a short passing game and a collection of runs that helped the Giants mount long drives and keep Geno Smith and the Seattle offense on the sideline. You can be sure that the 49ers watched that film and, in the absence of Chrsitian McCaffrey, will have inventive ways to use Deebo Samuel out of the backfield again and rely on yards after catch, playing a short passing game.

Game Review

What went well for the Seahawks against New York? Rayshawn Jenkins returned a goal-line fumble 102 yards to the house for a score in the first quarter. Geno Smith went 28 of 40 for 284 yards and ran for 72 more. However, he also ended up taking seven sacks on the day, a number that shows you how many drives stalled for the Seahawks. Seattle had lost to Detroit on Monday night and looked slow and tired playing on a six-day week. There were a number of undisciplined penalties, including pre-snap infractions against the offense. The tackling was not vintage Seattle as players hoped to rely on arm tackling to get the job done but ended up falling short. Returning to their normally intrepid tackling and solid O-line play should help Seattle out this week.

The Offensive

It’s also important to remember that Seattle lost on a bit of a fluke play. Yes, their offense against the Giants had been poor in terms of production, but they were lined up for a game-tying field goal attempt, down just 13-10, when the kick was blocked and taken to the house to make the game 19-10 with 50 seconds remaining in regulation. Overall, Seattle ranks 15th in red-zone defense, so they have a decent shot at holding San Francisco to more field goals than touchdowns. Their own offense ranks seventh in the league in total offense, and the Giants have a better-than-average defense. However, can they stop a 49ers team that will want to make a statement after that debacle against the Cardinals?

49ers vs Seahawks TNF Final Score and Prediction

The injury list for San Francisco includes Christian McCaffrey. He won’t be activated for this game, but his recovery is apparently improving. He had his first on-field work sessions since injuring his Achilles tendon, and that work did not cause any issues in either area. Having bilateral Achilles tendinitis (issues in both legs) can be challenging in terms of recovery, but McCaffrey is now looking at returning – at the soonest – on October 20 against Kansas City. The questionables for the 49ers include safeties Ji’Ayir Brown and Talanoa Hufanga, wide receiver Chris Conley, linebacker Fred Warner, and cornerback Charvarius Ward.

Injuries

For the Seahawks, linebacker Uchenna Nwosu will not play. The questionable list includes linebackers Boye Mafe and Derick Hall, cornerback Riq Woolen, and defensive tackle Byron Murphy II.

The key here is that a Seattle team that started out reasonably well has lost two in a row, both times getting their defense shredded by two significantly different offensive units. Detroit dropped 42 on Seattle with a fairly elite offense, while the Giants brought in a dink-and-dunk attack missing two of its best producers and still stacked up more than 400 yards on the night. Brock Purdy has a 4-0 career record against Seattle with a combined quarterback rating of 109.2.

I predict a final score of San Francisco 30, Seattle 20.

2023 49ers vs Seahawks Thanksgiving Day, Week 12

For the second time this season, the Seattle Seahawks suffered a disappointing loss to the L.A. Rams. The Rams won a 30-13 shocker in Week 1 up in Seattle, but the Seahawks had rebounded to post a 6-3 record through nine games, tied with San Francisco atop the NFC West. They had a chance on Sunday to avenge that loss but blew a 13-point lead, falling, 17-16. Now the Seahawks are a game back of the 49ers (7-3), but they have a chance to make that up this weekend as the 49ers come to town. San Francisco is riding a wave of momentum, though, as Brock Purdy posted the franchise’s first perfect quarterback rating in any game since Joe Montana accomplished the feat back in 1990. Check out our NFL betting preview of the evening showdown between 49ers vs Seahawks in this year’s Thanksgiving tripleheader.

Why should you bet on the San Francisco 49ers in TNF?

The 49ers went into their bye week suffering from a three-game skid. They used that week off to fix their problems, winning their last two games by a combined score of 61-17. They rank fourth in the league in scoring offense (27.9) and third in total offense (387 yards per game). Their rushing offense ranks sixth in the league (132.7 yards per game) behind 825 yards out of Christian McCaffrey, who leads all other tailbacks by 134 yards.

The 49ers have a fierce defense, permitting fifth in total defense (302.8 yards permitted per game). The passing defense has snatched 14 interceptions, the most in the league. They did lose All-Pro Talanoa Hufanga to a torn ACL last week. His season is done, and the team will miss his 52 tackles and three picks, but there is plenty of depth to keep the unit from regressing too much.

Why should you put your money on the Seattle Seahawks in TNF?

Seattle needs to snap out of a three-game malaise in which they have gone 1-2 and scored a grand total of 48 points. They still average 21.6 points per game, good for 16th in the league, but quarterback Geno Smith bruised his elbow in the loss to the Rams. He is listed as questionable, but head coach Pete Carroll has said that he expects Smith to play. Tailback Kenneth Walker III strained an oblique muscle in the game and is listed as doubtful; his 613 rushing yards lead the team.

The Seahawks’ defense permits 21.8 points per game. They have seven interceptions as a team with a secondary led by Devon Weatherspoon. He has posted 52 tackles and three sacks, along with a pick-six and 13 passes defensed. The defense will have to stand tall; even if Smith can play, his bruised elbow is likely to limit his accuracy and range down the field.

49ers vs Seahawks Final Score and Prediction in the Thanksgiving Day

The 49ers have won three in a row against the Seahawks – both straight up and against the spread. Christian McCaffrey ran for 227 yards against the Seahawks in the two matchups last year, and there’s nothing to suggest that the Seahawks can shut him down. I predict a final score of San Francisco 27, Seattle 16.
