AFC South Mock Draft For 2020

AFC South Mock Draft For 2020

Written by on April 20, 2020

In a sports world that is largely on pause due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the NFL is moving on with its 2020 draft later this week. The Heisman Trophy winner and hero of the 2020 national championship, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, is expected to go first overall to the Cincinnati Bengals, but after that it gets interesting, as there are all sorts of trade scenarios for the various draft slots after Cincinnati’s early in the first round. Let’s take a look at predicted draft choices and the odds for the four teams in the AFC South, as you consider how these picks will play in your sports betting strategy for NFL Draft.

AFC South Mock Draft For 2020

Houston Texans

Draft Picks Available
  • 2nd round (40th overall)
  • 3rd (97)
  • 4th (111)
  • 5th (171)
  • 7th (240)
  • 7th (248)
  • 7th (250)
Glaring Needs

The team still needs an elite wide receiver after the boneheaded move of trading DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona for David Johnson. Yes, the Texans paid heavily to add Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb, but neither has the playmaking ability of Hopkins, and both have injury issues.

Possibilities: Tee Higgins (Clemson), Justin Jefferson (LSU), Brandon Aiyuk (Arizona State)

The offensive line has been bolstered by the trade for Laremi Tunsil, but the right side of the O-line has some holes. Deshaun Watson has been sacked 106 times in the last two years, and the Texans need to get him some protection.

Possibilities: Damien Lewis (LSU)

The secondary was near the basement in the NFL in interceptions in 2019, so adding some blue-chip pieces at safety or cornerback will help. The Texans already added some help at cornerback, but quality at either position will be a bonus.

Possibilities: Trevon Diggs (Alabama), Jeff Gladney (TCU)

Indianapolis Colts

Draft Picks Available
  • 2nd round (34th overall)
  • 2nd (44)
  • 3rd (75)
  • 4th (122)
  • 5th (160)
  • 6th (185)
  • 6th (193)
  • 6th (211)
Glaring Needs

The Colts could use a wide receiver to upgrade their current pair of Zach Pascal and Parris Campbell. T.Y. Hilton is also a solid target, but there are plenty of possibilities in the upcoming class. Phillip Rivers brings a new focus on the passing game to the offense.

Possibilities: Jalen Reagor (TCU), Justin Jefferson (LSU), Laviska Shenault (Colorado), Brandon Aiyuk (Arizona State)

Phillip Rivers is the quarterback for today, but Indianapolis could also look for the quarterback of tomorrow after Andrew Luck retired last year.

Possibility: Jordan Love (Utah State)

Also, the D-line in Indianapolis could use some upgrades. The Colts traded for DeForest Buckner but need an edge rusher and some depth in the middle.

Possibilities: Curtis Weaver (Boise State), Neville Gallimore (Oklahoma)

Jacksonville Jaguars

Draft Picks Available
  • 1st round (ninth overall)
  • 1st (20)
  • 2nd (42)
  • 3rd (73)
  • 4th (116)
  • 4th (137)
  • 4th (140)
  • 5th (165)
  • 5th (170)
  • 6th (189)
  • 6th (206)
Glaring Needs

The Jaguars could use a tight end, even after adding Tyler Eifert, because he has only appeared in all 16 games once in his career. There aren’t a lot of elite tight ends in the NFL draft, but those second-day draft picks could definitely go to a tight end for the Jags.

The middle of the defensive line could use some bolstering. In the second half of 2019, they simply got gashed by opposing running backs.

Possibilities: Derrick Brown (Auburn), Javon Kinlaw (South Carolina)

Another area of need is cornerback. The team shipped Jalen Ramsey out of town and now have D.J. Hayden and Rashaan Melvin as their starters on the depth chart, so it’s safe to say that they could use some help.

Possibilities: Jeffrey Okudah (Ohio State), C.J. Henderson (Florida), Kristian Fulton (LSU)

Tennessee Titans

Draft Picks Available
  • 1st round (29th overall)
  • 2nd (61)
  • 3rd (93)
  • 5th (174)
  • 7th (237)
  • 7th (243)
Glaring Needs

The team inked Ryan Tannehill to a long-term extension after he led them to the AFC Championship, beating New England and Baltimore on the road along the way. However, a quarterback for the future is definitely something the Titans need.

The Titans also need wide receivers and a tight end to catch the ball. A.J. Brown had a terrific year, but Corey Davis has not performed as expected.

Possibilities: Tee Higgins (Clemson), Justin Jefferson (LSU), Jalen Reagor (TCU)

A slot cornerback would come in handy as well. Kenny Vaccaro is entering the last year of his contract.

Possibilities: Trevon Diggs (Alabama), Jeff Gladney (TCU), Xaiver McKinney (Alabama)
