NFL Baltimore Ravens Odds: Offense In-Depth Betting Analysis

The Baltimore Ravens finished the 2022 season with a 10-7 record, but they had to have a sense that they could have done much better and even won the AFC North, as they dropped three of their last four games, with all three losses coming against their three divisional opponents. That sent them into the wild-card round of the playoffs, and they ended up losing in Cincinnati in back-to-back weeks, falling in Week 18 and in the wild-card playoff. In the off-season, the Ravens briefly faced the turmoil of losing quarterback Lamar Jackson, but they eventually inked him to an extension. Going into 2023, what will we see out of the Ravens’ offense? They did not score more than 17 points in any game after November 27 (a 28-27 loss in Jacksonville that featured an epic collapse). Here is some information that NFL betting fans should read before wagering on the Ravens this fall.

NFL Betting News: Baltimore Ravens Offense In-Depth Analysis

The Ravens have had some tough luck in recent years, especially at running back. J.K. Dobbins looks to be healthy at long last and ready for a breakout season. He averaged 6.0 yards per attempt as a rookie in 2020, but he missed the whole 2021 season and nine games of the 2022 season thanks to a knee injury. Even though he was noticeably slower in 2022, he still averaged 5.7 yards per carry. Dobbins is more of a pure runner than a pass catcher out of the backfield, and you won’t see Dobbins score as many touchdowns as his peers on other teams because of the goal-line scoring that Jackson accomplishes himself. With the focus that opposing defenses place on Jackson as a runner, though, Dobbins will benefit from serving as the distraction.

Keaton Mitchell joins the team as an undrafted free agent out of East Carolina – a signing urged by new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who has indicated a desire to speed up the offense and use backs more in the passing game. One reason the Ravens were easier to stop on offense in the past couple of seasons is the plodding pace of their attack, and the predictability of the playcalling. Mitchell averaged almost 10 yards per catch at East Carolina, and while he did have some drop issues in college, coaching should help him refine his technique so that he holds onto the ball.

The Ravens also invested in wide receivers this off-season for the first time in a long time. Rashod Bateman will return from injury to find that the team added Zay Flowers and Odell Beckham Jr. Mark Andrews returns at tight end, which means that Jackson now has multiple targets down the field. Andrews may continue to get the lion’s share of the catches in this offense as the wide receivers are left to run routes and get more occasional numbers.

So what about Lamar Jackson? Even after missing some time to injury last season, Jackson is still a top ball carrier in this league, so you should expect him to finish in the top three or four quarterbacks in the NFL in rushing yards. Getting a new offensive coordinator and (finally) his contract extension, this could be the year when Jackson revers to the MVP form we’ve seen in previous seasons. He can throw the ball with elite accuracy, and he can still throw deep balls with authority. He has more (and better) targets that he’s had in the last few seasons. But can the Ravens keep up with Cincinnati in the division, and the likes of Buffalo and Kansas City in the AFC? We will see.
