Bears vs Commanders TNF Odds, Analysis and Prediction for Week 5

Did you know that it has almost been a complete calendar year since the Chicago Bears last won a football game? It looked like that drought was coming to an end on Sunday, as the Bears built a 21-point lead over the Denver Broncos, but then they allowed 24 unanswered points and lost, 31-28. The offense looked solid for a while, as the running game was cooking, and Justin Fields was able to find Cole Kmet, Darnell Mooney, and D.J. Moore down the field, but the defense collapsed – and Chase Claypool remains away from the team. Could Matt Eberflus be on the way out? The Bears have never fired a head coach during the season, and they already lack a defensive coordinator, but could they be thinking about Jim Harbaugh? Stay tuned for the Bears vs Commanders TNF.

Why should you bet on the Chicago Bears?

Everything that went well for the Bears when they were building that 28-7 lead against Denver turned sour – and in a hurry. They fumbled the ball, and the Broncos took the scoop-and-score to the house for a touchdown. They had a chance to keep the ball on a 4th-and-1 in the late going to secure the win, and they couldn’t gain that yard. A midfield interception by Fields meant the Broncos would take the win. Fields went 28 of 35 for 335 yards and four touchdowns, including completing his first 16 passes of the game.

The Bears’ defense, on the other hand, permitted 311 yards. They did pick up four tackles for loss and a sack, but the unit is still 28th in total defense – 18th against the run and 29th against the pass. If Fields can throw the ball with confidence (and have time in the pocket) against Washington, he has shown that he can find people and move the ball, but the Bears keep getting in their own way at this point.

Why should you put your money on the Washington Commanders?

The Commanders almost pulled off a massive upset last week, as they pushed the Philadelphia Eagles to overtime at Lincoln Financial Field. The Commanders were down seven with 1:24 remaining in regulation, but quarterback Sam Howell led the offense down the field, finding Jahan Dotson for the tying score as the clock expired. He went 29 of 41 on the day for 290 yards and a score, but he did take five sacks.

The defense was a bit porous, permitting 415 yards of offense and 23 first downs. On third downs, Washington stood tall, limiting the Eagles to a 4-of-12 conversion rate. They had six tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, and three sacks. The offense is still mediocre, ranked 20th in the NFL, but as Howell continues to grow in confidence, those numbers will improve. In the red zone, Washington is already 11th in the NFL in efficiency.

Bears vs Commanders TNF Final Score and Prediction

I did not expect Sam Howell to come along this quickly as an NFL quarterback, but he looked in his element against the Eagles last week. If he can bring that momentum again this week, it could be a long day for the Bears as the Commanders have the pass rush to keep Fields from settling in comfortably in the pocket. I predict a final score of Washington 30, Chicago 16.
