How to Bet on NFL Preseason Odds on Tennessee at NY Jets Week 1

Written by on August 10, 2017

Did you know that the New York Jets started their existence as the Titans? When the AFL took the field, this franchise took a stance opposite the New York Football Giants as the Titans of New York. Later on, they changed their name to the Jets, and the former Houston Oilers changed their name to the Tennessee Titans after some unstable time as the Tennessee Oilers. These two teams meet at a time when they appear headed in opposite directions, as the Titans look to compete in the AFC South, while the Jets appear ready for a major rebuild. Now they meet in Week 1 of the NFL Preseason. We’re going to take a look at the betting odds for this preseason matchup, with the latest game preview.

Why should you bet on the Titans?

The Titans are looking to first-round draft pick Corey Davis to elevate their wide receiver corps. However, we won’t see him in the preseason opener, as he has a hamstring injury that will sideline him for a minimum of a week. So we’ll see Taywan Taylor running routes for the Titans — and according to the rumors from camp that will be a good thing. Tajae Sharpe, Rishard Matthews, Eric Decker (from the Jets), along with Taylor and Davis, give the Titans a lot of choices.

How is Mariota Looking Like This Season?

Marcus Mariota looks to be back at full force after breaking his leg near the end of the 2016 campaign. However, I don’t expect to see him for more than a series or two. Instead, we’ll see a lot out of retread Matt Cassel and Alex Tanney, as they vie for that backup slot on the roster. DeMarco Murray will probably get similar treatment and just play for a few series before we see Derrick Henry come on and get a lot of reps with the ball. Also, rookie Adoree’ Jackson, the Titans’ other first-round pick, will show us what he has in the secondary as well as with returning kicks. Tennessee comes in riding a wave of optimism, which will help them against a struggling Jets team.

Why should you put your money on the Jets?

All signs from the offseason show that the Jets are aiming for a high pick in next year’s draft as well. The biggest question is whether Christian Hackenberg will take the starting quarterback position away from journeyman Josh McCown. Hackenberg has had a lot of issues so far in camp, but we should still expect to see a lot more of him and Bryce Petty running the offense than McCown. Quincy Enunwa, the Jets’ top wideout, has a bulging disc in his neck, which has him on the shelf for the whole season. So Jets fans will see what ArDarius Stewart, Charone Peake and Jalin Marshall can contribute. Are the Jets a safe bet for this NFL Preseason matchup?

Are There Any Recent Injuries?

Rookie safety Jamal Adams sprained his ankle but is back in practice. He remains questionable to take the field in the preseason opener. However, the Jets need some positive news out of a secondary that many saw as the best in the NFL just two seasons ago, before they entered play and started getting torched on a weekly basis. If the new Titans come out and make a ton of mistakes, and the Jets manage to capitalize on them, then New York could win, or at least cover — and one thing we see in the early going of the preseason is a lot of errors.

Expert NFL Preseason Pick and Final Score Prediction

It’s going to be a long season for fans of the J-E- T-S — while Tennessee looks to have a promising campaign ahead of them. I like the Titans to ride their superior talent and their momentum to a 23-13 win over the Jets on Saturday night.
