NFL Betting Odds & Predictions for Sunday Night Football in Week 8: Packers - Bills

NFL Betting Odds & Predictions for Sunday Night Football in Week 8 → Packers – Bills

Written by on October 27, 2022

The Green Bay Packers (3-4) head east to Buffalo in a free fall, having turned a 3-1 start into a 3-4 mark, while the Bills (5-1) have won three in a row. These teams last met in 2018, when the Packers shut out the Bills, 22-0, as 8 ½-point home favorites. However, fortunes have improved in Buffalo, and the offense of the Packers has largely vanished over the last month. This line opened at Buffalo -10 but has already ticked up a point, so let’s take a look at your best sports betting choices for this matchup.

Why should you bet on the Packers?

Not only did Green Bay lose to lowly Washington last week, but the Commanders had their backup quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, in the game. Green Bay went in as four-point favorites but could not get the job done. After the game, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took some tough questions about the way he has publicly criticized his teammates, and his response is not one that will make locker room chemistry improve any time soon: “People in this society have a hard time hearing truth sometimes.”

Washington possessed the ball for 37 minutes of the game (leaving just 23 minutes for the Packers), and they outgained Green Bay, 364-232. Rodgers had decent numbers, going 23 of 35 for 194 yards and two touchdowns (without a pick), but the running game got shut down – Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon combined for just 38 yards on 12 carries. Jones was productive out of the backfield, catching nine passes for 53 yards and both of those touchdowns. Rodgers himself is listed as questionable with a thumb injury, but I would not expect him to miss a marquee matchup with Josh Allen.

Why should you put your money on the Bills?

Buffalo comes into this game well-rested, as they had the bye last week. Their only setback this season has been a somewhat puzzling loss in Miami in Week 3, but their current winning streak includes victories over Baltimore and Kansas City. Buffalo beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, as Josh Allen led a comeback drive late in the fourth quarter. On the day, he went 27 of 40 for 329 yards and three scores, and Stefon Diggs had 10 catches for 148 yards and a score.

The ground game was also productive, as Devin Singletary ran for 85 yards and also caught four passes out of the backfield. As a team, the Bills rank second in scoring offense (29.3 points per game), and they rank first in passing yards and in total yards. In team defense, they rank first, permitting just 13.5 points per game, and they are also first in total yards permitted and rushing yards permitted. Xavier Rhodes is questionable in the secondary, but the injury report otherwise looks clean.

Final Score and Prediction

I see Buffalo putting the hammer down on Green Bay after the rest of their bye week. Green Bay has a game defense, but the Bills just have too many weapons on offense. The Bills’ defense will likely see a lot of passing out of Rodgers, but their pass rush and secondary have been solid all year long. I see another difficult night for the Packers – and more criticism from Rodgers for his team. I predict a final score of Buffalo 30, Green Bay 16.
