NFL Betting News and Rumors: Saquon Barkley, Aaron Rodgers and Michael Jefferson

NFL Betting News and Rumors: Saquon Barkley, Aaron Rodgers and Michael Jefferson

Written by on April 11, 2023

One of the most bizarre NFL news items in recent months involves the passing of former Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who was hit and killed by a dump truck while walking on a highway in South Florida. His family has just sued four individuals, a golf driving range, a hotel, and two restaurants in what they describe as a “blackmail and robbery conspiracy.” A toxicology report indicated that Haskins was legally drunk when the truck hit him, and he also tested positive for norketamine and ketamine. The lawsuit also claims negligence on the part of the owner of the truck that hit Haskins, the trucking company, the Florida Department of Transportation, the company that rented Haskins the car he had been driving that night, and the signage contractor that did work on the highway. It sounds like there is more to come. For some NFL news that will influence your NFL betting choices, read on.

New York Giants

tailback Saquon Barkley was designated as the team’s franchise player in March, but the team has continued to pursue long-term contract negotiations. Barkley has not signed the franchise tender and will not sign it before offseason programs begin on Monday. He would earn $10.091 million this season under the terms of the franchise tag, but the team would rather sign a long-term deal. Barkley turned down a contract offer that was worth about $12 million per season back in November. According to ESPN, Barkley would take a deal worth about $14 million per season. Coming after a season when he ran for 1,312 yards and finished fourth in the league, ran for 10 or more yards 32 times and earned the AP Comeback Player of the Year runner-up in the voting. The question about Barkley is still his health. He played a full season in 2022 – but that was the first time in his career, as injuries kept him off the field for parts of 2019 through 2021, including missing almost the whole 2020 season with an ACL tear in his right knee.

Aaron Rodgers

is still a Green Bay Packer, at least for now, as the team continues to negotiate a deal to send the former MVP to the New York Jets. The Packers are ready to hand the offense over to Jordan Love, but the two teams are still hammering out the right compensation. It doesn’t look like the Jets will be sending Green Bay a first-round draft pick for this season. Tailback Aaron Jones spent a day working out with Love earlier in the offseason, and Jones reported that Love was comfortable and “throwing the ball with swag” in an interview with ESPN. The Jets have already signed wide receiver Allen Lazard to make Rodgers more comfortable running their offense, but the longer the trade takes to happen, the longer it will take each team to get its new chemistry sorted.

Michael Jefferson

is a wide receiver who played at the University of Louisiana and was viewed as a possible middle-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. However, he was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Sunday night in Mobile, Alabama, and his injuries required several surgeries. His Chevrolet Impala hit a Dodge Charger head-on, and a third car also hit the Charger. The driver of the Charger was pronounced dead at the scene and had not been wearing a seat belt. No news about Jefferson’s recovery has been released, and the Alabama Highway Patrol is also investigating the accident.
