NFC Rivalry Games in the NFL Odds for 2024/25 Season: Panthers vs Bears, Falcons vs Vikings & Cowboys vs Eagles

NFC Rivalry Games in the NFL Odds for 2024/25 Season: Panthers vs Bears, Falcons vs Vikings & Cowboys vs Eagles

Don’t look now, but the Dallas Cowboys have added another tailback to the team with a successful past. This is just the beginning, so get ready for planning your NFL Betting strategies.

They signed Dalvin Cook, the four-time Pro Bowler, to the roster that already includes Ezekiel Elliott. The problem is that both of these tailbacks look to be well past their prime.

Cook took the field in 15 games for the Jets last season, but only averaged 3.2 yards per carry, picking up 214 yards.

He also ended up with the Ravens in the playoffs, but he only managed 23 rushing yards in Baltimore’s playoff win over Houston.

Ezekiel Elliott spent, 2023 with New England but only averaged 3.5 yards per carry, running for 642 yards. Will the Cowboys’ offense produce this year? We’ll see – and we’ll also see them in some of the top rivalry games in the NFC in 2024.

NFL Betting Analysis: NFC Rivalry Games in 2024 Season

Read on to find our thoughts about some of these smackdowns as you lay out your sports betting for the coming regular season.

Carolina Panthers at Chicago Bears Week 5

Two of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL will square off at Soldier Field as Carolina’s Bryce Young looks to make his second NFL season more memorable than his first.

The Panthers have surrounded himself with more skill players and beefed up the O-line, so Young should spend less time running for his life and will have better targets down the field.

Caleb Williams has looked solid in training camp, and the Bears have three legitimate playmakers at wide receiver this season.

Chicago is one of the oldest and most storied teams in the NFL, but their last dominant quarterback was Sid Luckman – who retired after the 1950 season. Is Williams really ready to bring the Bears’ offense into the twenty-first century? We will see.

Week 14: Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings

This game will mark Kirk Cousins’ return to his most recent team in the NFL. He signed a big free-agent deal with the Falcons in the off-season after some big seasons with the Vikings – who had signed him away from Washington.

The Vikings were hoping that J.J. McCarthy out of Michigan would take up the mantle as the starting quarterback, but McCarthy’s season-ending injury means that Sam Darnold is the starter for the foreseeable future.

For Cousins, the seat is at least warm as the team also drafted Michael Penix Jr out of the University of Washington.

The Vikings also inked Justin Jefferson to a mammoth extension over the off-season, but they’re still looking for a legit tailback, and their defense has some holes.

As the Vikings move into a rebuild and Kirk Cousins shows up with Bijan Robinson in the backfield, this could be a big road win for Atlanta.

Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles Weeks 10 and 17

This is one of the great divisional rivalries in the NFC, with more showings on Sunday Night Football than any other (16 total).

Each team has won eight of those meetings. The teams have squared off in the postseason four times, with Dallas winning three of those.

When both teams were strong at the same time, back in the 1980s and 1990s, this was an intense rivalry.

Back in 1990, Eagles head coach Buddy Ryan allegedly choked on a pork chop one night during the week leading up to the showdown in Dallas, so Cowboys fans tossed pork chops down onto the field when the Eagles showed up.

Last season, Philadelphia started 10-1 but collapsed down the stretch, finishing 11-6, and the Cowboys took advantage to win the division with a 12-5 record.

Dallas has some drama in that coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott are both going through their last season; neither has received a contract extension beyond the 2024 campaign.

Can they earn another contract if they sweep the Eagles (or at least get the split)? We will see.

NFC Rivalry Games for 2024/25 Season

The 2024 NFL schedule has some unusual features. For example, the Detroit Lions only play one outdoor game between Weeks 1 and 15. Obviously, they play all of their home games indoors, but many of their opponents play outdoors. In Week 9, they play at Lambeau Field, but other than that, 13 of their first 14 games will be played out of the elements. The Cowboys and the Giants face each other twice in 2024. Since they’re in the same division, that’s not unusual at all. However, they play both of their meetings on Thursdays. That happened last year when Green Bay and Detroit met twice on Thursdays, but before then, the last time that happened was in 1926 when the Chicago Cardinals and the Chicago Bears played each other twice on Thursdays. This year’s slate also includes some games between NFC rivals, so let’s take a look at some matchups that should attract your NFL betting.

NFL Betting News: Biggest NFC Rivalry Games in 2024 NFL Season

Week 16: Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers

These two teams met at Levi’s Stadium last year in the NFC Championship. The Lions struggled defending the pass, pretty much their only area of weakness on that side of the ball. Going into 2023, they had brought in three free agents to make their secondary better, but two of them missed significant time due to injury. Emmanuel Moseley only made it one game at cornerback, going down with a season-ending knee injury. C.J. Gardner-Johnson missed some time with a torn pectoral muscle. That bumped up Jerry Jacobs and Cam Sutton to the starting positions. Jacob had three picks in the first five weeks, but he ended up getting benched later in the season. Sutton got torched by the likes of Mike Evans, Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, and CeeDee Lamb. He does have consistent skills on defense, but he is not the shutdown corner who should be trying to lock down the other team’s top receiver. This off-season, the Lions did another secondary rebuild and should be better back there, as long as the injury bug doesn’t strike again. Of course, playing all those games on turf might not help.

San Francisco brings just about everyone back from their NFC Championship team from a year ago. The team restructured Christian McCaffrey’s deal to move him to the top of the tailback salary list. Brock Purdy is back; his midseason slump a year ago proved short-lived, and the 49ers recovered from a four-game skid to run the table all the way to the Super Bowl, where they fell to the Chiefs. The Lions almost knocked off the 49ers in a 34-31 loss in the NFC Championship; will the changes to the Detroit defense allow them to score 31 points and win this time around?

Week 14: Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins will take the field in Minnesota, but he won’t be wearing the purple and gold he wore as the Vikings’ starting quarterback. For the second time, Cousins came to the end of a lucrative contract without getting an extension – and found a new deal in another city. The Vikings signed Cousins away from Washington, but then they elected not to extend him, hoping instead that J.J. McCarthy out of Michigan is the quarterback of the future. Cousins is now an Atlanta Falcon, but we will see how long he lasts there, as the Falcons also drafted Michael Penix Jr out of the University of Washington; Penix guided Washington to the national championship game.

The Vikings signed Justin Jefferson to a mammoth extension that will keep him in Minneapolis for a while. His new quarterback appears to be McCarthy. The team is also starting over at tailback and relying on a defense that was not particularly consistent a year ago. I expect that the Vikings will be able to move the ball on Atlanta, but getting touchdowns instead of field goals might be a challenge.
