At the start of the 2021 NFL regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs were the odds-on favorites to win Super Bowl LVI. They won the whole thing two years ago, made it back to the title game last year but got shelled by Tampa Bay thanks to injuries on the O-line. This year, the O-line was overhauled, and the Chiefs were supposed to make another run despite some questions on defense. However, that defense has gotten shredded — and now the Chiefs are looking up at the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West, and their Super Bowl odds have lengthened.
Check out the opening and current odds to win the Super Bowl and some thoughts about teams who have taken the biggest changes.

The Buffalo Bills announced their intentions to dominate the AFC with a big win in Kansas City last week. Yes, Josh Allen is having a monster season, but Emmanuel Sanders, now in his 12th NFL season out of SMU, is a huge weapon down the field. He has two games in which he has scored twice each, including that win in Kansas City. He is also averaging 16.9 yards per catch. If he keeps this up, that just gives the Bills another weapon along with Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley.
I liked the Arizona Cardinals to make noise in the NFC West, maybe even sneak off with the division title, but I did not have them starting 5-0. Tailback Chase Edmonds is a uge story, as he leads the team in rushing and could break the 1,000-yard barrier for the first time this year. He also is tied for the team lead in catches with 23. Adding that dimension to the Cardinals’ offense takes more pressure off Kyler Murray and gives defensive coordinators another target to worry about.
The L.A. Rams are looking up at the Cardinals in the division now, but Mattew Stafford is doing a solid job leading the offense. With weapons like DeSean Jackson, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson and Tyler Higbee, the Rams should score a ton of points, and their defense is stout enough to be elite.
I gave the Dallas Cowboys a lot of criticism for their ridiculous defense last year, and I thought their young unit this year had a lot of talent but would take a while to come together. That has not been the case, as the Dallas defense has shut down teams week and week out, led by Trevon Diggs, who has six picks in just five games. The NFL record for a season (11) is held by former Cowboy great Everson Walls, and Diggs is taking on opponents’ top receivers right now. I’m still not sure if Dallas has the mental strength for a deep playoff run, but they deserve to be listed among the contenders.
