Bills vs Ravens Expert Analysis & Betting Odds for Week 4 Sunday Night Football

Written by on September 27, 2024

NFL Game Odds: Bills vs Ravens SNF | This week’s edition of Sunday Night Football could be a preview of an AFC playoff showdown, as the Buffalo Bills (3-0) head south to take on the Baltimore Ravens (1-2).

The Ravens started the season with losses but bounced back in Dallas with a commanding lead. The Cowboys mounted a comeback but fell short by three points.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson have met four times, three in the regular season and once in the postseason.

The Ravens have a 2-1 advantage in those regular-season meetings, while the Bills have won the only playoff meeting that featured these two quarterbacks.

Allen has started the 2024 campaign in stellar fashion, without the turnover issues that have plagued him in seasons past.

Jackson has used new tailback Derrick Henry to build a strong running game, but now the Ravens need to learn how to play the fourth quarter like they play the first three and finish wins.

SNF Buffalo Bills +110

It’s true that Buffalo heads to Baltimore on a short week after hosting Jacksonville on Monday night. However, the momentum of their 47-10 shellacking of the Jaguars should make up for some of the fatigue.

The Bills dominated the Jaguars with an explosive offense, starting with a 10-play touchdown drive by James Cook. Allen threw four touchdown passes in the first half, leading to touchdowns on all five possessions.

He now has 11 games with at least four touchdown passes, passing the franchise record previously held by Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. The Bills had had a 10-day break after beating Miami, 31-10, down in Florida on September 12.

Allen passed for 247 yards to nine receivers in the first half, with touchdown passes to four players. In the second half, the Bills switched to the running game and subbed in Trubisky.

The Buffalo Bills defense matched the dominance of their offense, holding the Jaguars to only 70 yards, five first downs, and a field goal in the first half. Allen’s touchdown pass to Johnson sealed the game with a 35-3 lead.

Safety Damar Hamlin got the first interception of his career, easily snagging Trevor Lawrence’s overthrown pass that was intended for Brian Thomas Jr. It only took five more plays for the Bills to cash in for a touchdown.

The Bills defense was just as strong as their offense, limiting the Jaguars to just 70 yards, five first downs, and a field goal in the first half. Allen sealed the game with a 35-3 lead by throwing a touchdown pass to Johnson.

If you like the Bills this week, you see that offense finding room to operate against a Baltimore team that is pretty solid against the run but can be leveraged in the secondary.

SNF Baltimore Ravens -135

The Ravens, led by Lamar Jackson, recovered from their first 0-2 start with a strong performance against Dallas. Derrick Henry and Jackson each scored two touchdowns, while the team found their rhythm early with touchdowns on their first two drives.

Baltimore ran for 274 yards against the Cowboys, the most given up by Dallas since allowing 294 yards in two games in 2020 when their defense was struggling.

Jackson connected with Agholor for a 56-yard gain before Henry scored a touchdown from the one-yard line, giving the Ravens a 14-3 lead. His first pass to Kolar went for 30 yards.

Jackson’s 92% open target rate helped the Ravens move the ball effectively. He completed 12 of 15 passes for 182 yards, ran for 87 yards, and threw for one touchdown.

Baltimore almost fell apart when the Cowboys scored a touchdown and recovered an on-side kick but missed the two-point conversion.

Jackson completed a late pass to Zay Flowers to secure the game. Flowers initially fumbled an onside kick, but successfully recovered the second attempt, preventing the Cowboys from potentially taking the lead.

The ravens need to address finishing games in practice after losing a 10-point lead to Las Vegas and nearly losing a 22-point lead. Improvement needed to secure wins.

If the Cowboys had been able to convert on two-point conversions, the Ravens would have been down by a point in the late going.

The Ravens need to improve their ability to close out games, having lost significant leads this and last season. The Bills’ offense will challenge the Ravens’ defense, requiring Jackson and Henry to sustain long drives to keep Josh Allen sidelined.

Bills vs Ravens SNF Final Score and Prediction

I don’t think that the Bills will break 30 points this time. I see this turning into more of a defensive duel, despite the big production that Buffalo has had thus far. Their first three opponents (Arizona, Miami and Jacksonville) haven’t been in the top tier of NFL teams.

The closest the Bills have come to an elite opponent was Miami, but when Tua Tagovailoa had to leave the game with a concussion, the life went out of the Dolphins. To be fair, the Bills were already winning big at that point, but there was no shot at Skylar Thompson leading Miami on a comeback late in the game. The Ravens have had an elite opponent (Kansas City) and two softer ones (Las Vegas and Dallas).

The Ravens had a chance to avenge an AFC Championship loss on their home field when they played the Chiefs, but they couldn’t leverage the advantage of Patrick Mahomes having to work with new receivers this season. I think Buffalo can slow down the Ravens’ running game more effectively than Dallas did, but I see this game slowing down as two stout defenses make the offensive coordinators work hard in the adjustment game to find opportunities.

I predict a final score of Buffalo 24, Baltimore 20.
