The Denver Broncos quietly added Ronnie Perkins to their roster this week to bolster their pass rush. Normally, grabbing a player off another team’s practice squad (in this case, the New England Patriots) isn’t worth that much attention, but this deal reunites Perkins with Nik Bonitto, as the two starred with the Oklahoma Sooners. Perkins has not made it onto the field in two seasons with the Pats and spent the entire 2022 campaign on the IR list. Perkins and Bonitto caused havoc in Oklahoma, though; in the 2022 season, the duo combined for 22 tackles for loss and 14 ½ sacks. The duo will also get to work with Jamar Cain, the OLB/DE coach with the Sooners from 2020-2021 and the Broncos’ pass rush specialist. Can this move add value to the Denver roster? Fans hope so as the Broncos have disappointed in each of their first two games. This week, they head down to South Beach to take on a tough Miami Dolphins team. Why should you bet on the Broncos?
The Broncos have roared out to halftime leads in each of their first two games, only to fall off the table after the intermission. In Week 2, the Broncos built up a 21-3 lead in the second quarter – only to permit 11 points after the two-minute warning to make it a 21-14 halftime score. The Broncos still led going to the fourth, 24-21, but Washington got two more touchdowns to lead by 11 with 7:11 remaining. The Broncos added a field goal and then got a lucky Hail Mary bounce to pull within two, but then Washington got away with some egregious pass interference on the two-point conversion, sending the Broncos home as losers. Washington won the time of possession battle by 7 ½ minutes, which didn’t help – and the Broncos had two turnovers while the Commanders had none.
The offense is putting up better numbers this year, but the consistency is still a problem, as is the defense. The Broncos rank 14th in scoring offense (24.5 points per game) but 23rd in scoring defense (permitting 26 points per game). Russell Wilson has 485 passing yards with a 5:1 TD:INT ratio, and Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine have combined to run for 141 yards. Cortland Sutton is the top receiver with nine catches for 98 yards, and Marvin Mims Jr leads in receiving yards with 122 on just four catches. To beat Miami, or even to cover, though, the defense is going to have to get more stops.

Why should you put your money on the Dolphins?
Miami is rolling with a 2-0 record, sitting on top of the AFC East standings – and with a divisional showdown against the Buffalo Bills coming next week. They stopped New England, 24-17, in Week 2, after building a 17-3 halftime lead. The Patriots were driving for a tying score in the last minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Dolphins got the stop with 51 seconds left. The Dolphins outgained the Pats, 389-288. The key for Miam is their passing offense, the best in the league at 355 yards per game. The rushing game is average, ranked 16th with 107.5 yards per game. They score 30 points per game, good for third in the league. Tua Tagovailoa has a 4:2 TD:INT ratio and has thrown for 715 yards through two games. Raheem Mostert has run for 158 yards on 28 carries, scoring three times, and Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have combined for 419 receiving yards through two games.
The Miami scoring defense ranks 19th in the league, permitting 25.5 points per game, but they were able to shut down a New England offense that has a decent O-line and a quarterback in Mac Jones who seems to be building confidence. If the Dolphins can clamp down on the Broncos early, this could be a long game.

Broncos vs Dolphins Final Score and Prediction
It’s been surprising to see Sean Payton struggle with halftime adjustments after his long run of success with the New Orleans Saints. He needs to figure out how to counter what opponents are setting up during the intermissions. I see Miami rolling in this game, 30-20.
