The Cincinnati Bengals started the 2022 season with two losses (to Pittsburgh and Dallas) and still didn’t look all that solid after eight games (4-4). However, they flipped a switch after losing in Cleveland, 32-13, running off a nine-game winning streak to end the regular season. They also won their wild-card and divisional playoff games before losing in Kansas City, 23-20, in the AFC Championship. How will their offense look in 2023? For those following the Bengals with their sports betting, we have a detailed look at the offensive side of the ball.
NFL Betting News: Cincinnati Bengals Offense In-Depth Analysis
One key for the Bengals is their stable coaching staff. Wide receivers coach Case Walters joined the team in 2020 as an assistant and was put in charge of the wide receivers the next season. While he’s been in town, the Bengals have the best crew of receivers in the league, led by Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher joined the Bengals in 2016 as an offensive assistant, and he became the QB coach in 2020 when Alex Van Pelt took the OC job in Cleveland. We’ve seen the terrific results Pitcher has been able to get out of Joe Burrow. Justin Hill, the running backs coach, has been with the team since 2021, when he came from the University of Tulsa, where he got several 1,400-yard seasons out of D’Angelo Brewer, who was less than a transcendent talent. OC Brian Callahan has been with Cincinnati since 2019, running the offense, while head coach Zac Taylor calls the plays. The entire offensive staff is back for 2023, meaning that a successful system and message will remain consistent for the team once again.
Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 35 touchdowns, stacking up almost 4,500 yards through the air. The offensive line had some problems in the playoffs, particularly in the wild card game and the AFC Championship, and the front office has shored up some of those issues, adding Orlando Brown at left tackle. With those improvements up front, we should see him push past 5,000 yards and get in the MVP conversation.

Ja’Marr Chase had to miss several games in 2022, but he still picked up 1,046 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches; now that he is healthy, he should be able to push his single-season yardage record (1,455) and get closer to 1,500. Tee Higgins also broke the 1,000-yard season last year and should benefit from the double-teams that Chase draws. Both of these receivers should end up with double figures in receiving touchdowns. Charlie Jones enters as a rookie and should start to prepare the team for the possible departure of Tyler Boyd, as the team may not have enough money to pay him what he has earned.
Joe Mixon is back at tailback after an off-season in which it seemed like the Bengals would let him go (and they still could release him as we get ready for training camp). However, he carried the load down the stretch last year and showed that he is not ready for the downward trajectory to come that sends so many star tailbacks to the waiver wire. Trayveon Williams and Chase Brown are both ready to run after getting new deals. Williams will take on Samaje Preine’s role, spelling Mixon on third down and pounding the ball.
In 2022, the Bengals only broke the 27-point barrier once in their eleven-game winning streak that closed the regular season and extended into the first two games of the postseason. This is a testament to what the defense was able to do to slow down the opposition, but what we saw in the AFC title game is what we have seen at other points for the Bengals lately – they need an offense that can lock down games against elite opponents, instead of putting all the pressure on the defense. We saw this in the Bengals’ Super Bowl loss to the Rams, and we saw this in the late loss to Kansas City last year. In both games, the Bengals’ offense did not have a late response to a rally by the opposition. The hope is that the acquisitions on the O-line and in the running game will give the Bengals the offensive balance they need.
