Why should you bet on the Lions?
Matthew Stafford showed why the Detroit Lions inked him to an historic $135 million contract extension just before the start of the season. He showed some butterflies in the opening half, throwing a pick-six to Justin Bethel in the first period. However, he found Marvin Jones Jr. just before halftime, and then in the second half he found Theo Riddick for a score and Kenny Golladay for another pair of scores. On the day, Stafford went 29 for 41 for 292 yards and four scores overall. The Lions’ defense has long been their Achilles heel, but they were able to limit the Cardinals to just 23 points, including 10 in that first half when their offense was sputtering. The Giants may have Odell Beckham Jr on the field, but he is unlikely to be at 100% after recovering from an ankle sprain, and against Dallas, no one else really emerged as a legitimate target, not even Brandon Marshall, whom the Giants had signed in the off-season. If Detroit can mount any sort of pass rush and can contain Shane Vereen on the running game, they have a real shot to go 2- 0 on the young season. Why should you put your money on the Giants?
When Dallas beat the Giants in Week One, Eli Manning spent the night running for his life against a Dallas pass rush that simply would not stop. That’s one reason why Manning had to check down to Shane Vereen so many times. Vereen did haul in nine passes but only gained 51 yards on those receptions. A late pick by Dallas’ Anthony Brown iced the game for the Cowboys. If Manning can do a better job with ball security and the Giants’ offensive line can do a better job of blocking, the Giants should have a chance here. The Lions don’t have the same sort of pass rush that Dallas brought in Week One, so this should be doable for the Giants. The New York defense has received a major infusion of talent in the past two seasons. They did limit Dallas to 19 points on the night, but they only sacked Dak Prescott once and did not have any takeaways. They will need a better pass rush against Matthew Stafford; otherwise, he will just sit back there and pick at the holes that open up as his receivers run routes down the field.Latest Betting Trends
