2023 NFL Division Odds to Win AFC North

2023 NFL Division Odds to Win AFC North

NFL Betting Lines: The Cincinnati Bengals have won the last two AFC North titles, but as we go into 2023, the division looks tighter than ever. The four quarterbacks in the division – Joe Burrow (Cincinnati), Lamar Jackson (Baltimore), Deshaun Watson (Cleveland), and Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh) – all have tremendous upside, although the last three all have questions to answer. Can Jackson play a full 17-game season? Injuries have kept him from finishing the last two campaigns. Is Deshaun Watson over that long layoff, which included a holdout in Houston and an 11-game suspension? Is Kenny Pickett ready to lead the Steelers’ offense without falling prey to the sophomore slump? We’ll look at each team’s NFL betting odds to win the division and analyze each team’s prospects.

One problem that the Cincinnati Bengals face is the amount of time Burrow spends running for his life. For his career, 24.3 percent of his pressured plays have turned into sacks, which has a lot to do with Burrow wanting to extend plays and make them himself rather than dump the ball off or throw it way up high into the stands. The team did add Orlando Brown Jr to give Burrow an elite left tackle, but Borrow will keep trying to extend plays. Tight end Irv Smith Jr could be a solid weapon despite the fact that he dropped that touchdown pass for Minnesota in the playoffs – that was one of just five drops he had all year, on 126 total targets. Also, Charlie Jones should make his mark at receiver. Yes, Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tyler Boyd are ahead of him on the depth chart, but Jones saw 154 targets and gained 2.7 yards per route run.

For the Baltimore Ravens, keep looking for Lamar Jackson to elevate his passing game now that he has the mammoth extension. Todd Monken comes to town as the new OC, replacing the system that Greg Roman had build to leverage Jackson’s talent. Monken’s system is more like the 11 personnel system that Jackson played in at Louisville, with at least three wide receivers 65 percent of the time. The Ravens did that 12% last year, the lost order in the NFL. The Ravens do need a slot corner, as Marlon Humphrey may take that position back, but the team would do better to pick up a free agent.

Myles Garrett should have gotten a lot of consideration for Defensive Player of the Year, but the Cleveland Browns played so poorly that he went under the radar when it was time to choose that winner. During the off-season, the Browns added talent around him so that blockers won’t be able to double-team him as much. On the offensive side of the ball, expect Nick Chubb to set career marks in receiving now that Kareem Hunt, who caught most of the passes out of the backfield, has moved on. On the offensive line, the team drafted Dawand Jones in the fourth round, but you would have thought he went in the first after he played 74 snaps in the Hall of Fame Game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers look for major growth out of Pickett, who had just seven touchdown passes in 13 games. He did show a lot of poise, and the O-line is much better this time around. The Steelers didn’t really have much business posting a winning record last year, but Mike Tomlin guided them there. T.J. Watt is a transcendent player on defense – and he missed seven games at the point when Pickett was learning to lead the offense. The O-line should move into the league’s top ten by the end of the year.
