Few offenses have undergone the fundamental change that has happened in Green Bay this off-season. Aaron Rodgers, a sure-thing Hall of Famer, has left via trade to ply his craft with the New York Jets, and wide receiver Allen Lazard went with him. Jordan Love will take the reins of the offense, and the Packers find themselves with not one but two NFC North opponents (Detroit and Minnesota) who will challenge them this season. Let’s look at some questions the Packers will have to answer on offense this season as you consider how to line up your NFL betting.
NFL Betting News: An In-depth Analysis of the Green Bay Offense
We’ve been wondering about Jordan Love since Packers GM Brian Gutekunst traded up into the first round to select him in the 2020 draft. Love would likely have taken over the Green Bay offense sooner, but then Rodgers drew on that pick as motivation to up his game and won the NFL MVP trophy in back-to-back years. This has given Love three years to learn the position behind one of the top quarterbacks of this century.
Once Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard left in the off-season, the Packers were left with Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson as the top wideouts in the depth chart. Both of them were rookies last year – and both of them showed signs of elite talent. Doubs made some highlight-reel catches at training camp in 2022, and he ended up with 42 catches for 425 yards and three scores. Watson caught 41 balls for 611 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran for two more scores. They both also missed some time last year, as Watson had to sit with a hamstring injury and a concussion for three games each, and Doubs missed four games with an ankle injury. With no one above them in the depth chart, and with the depth at wide receiver a bit suspicious at this point, they both need to stay healthy.

The Packers haven’t really had a solid tight end for several seasons now, but they may have fixed that in the draft, taking Luke Musgrave out of Oregon State in the second round, followed by Tucker Kraft out of South Dakota one round later. They are both extremely talented, but the lack of veteran presence at that position means that they won’t have time to learn the game at NFL speed but instead will be expected to produce immediately.
Center Josh Myers will need to elevate his game as he enters his third season. When the Packers took him in the second round of the 2021 draft, the top-rated prospect at center, Creed Humphrey, was still available. Kansas City eventually drafted him, and he has done a solid job for the Chiefs, while Myers only earned a 60.4 grade from Pro Football Focus last year. Myers won’t have a veteran quarterback behind him this year to cover for some of his mistakes, so he has to produce.
Given the rash of injuries that strike NFL quarterbacks each year, it’s worth asking who will back up Jordan Love. Right now, the top two names under Love’s on the depth chart are veteran backup Danny Etling, an LSU product, and Sean Clifford, whom the team took in th fifth round. Etling has appeared on six different NFL rosters but has never taken a snap in a regular-season game. He is very athletic and has a cannon for an arm, while Clifford was a baffling pick, as he never demonstrated pro-level ability while playing for Penn State.
It’s also worth looking at head coach Matt LaFleur. He has led the team to a 47-19 record with three division titles and three conference championship game appearances. Can LaFleur continue to produce these same elite results without Rodgers?
