Jacksonville at Tennessee Week 8 Betting Pick & Lines

Written by on October 26, 2016

Third-year quarterback Blake Bortles couldn’t outduel his arch-nemesis Derek Carr, a fellow third-year QB, last Sunday. The Jags signal-caller will be hoping for a better outing along with his Jacksonville Jaguars (2-4) when they hit the road to Nashville to take on the surging second- year QB Marcus Mariota and his up-and- coming Tennessee Titans (3-4) this Thursday. Ready you wagers for this game by checking out the NFL betting preview prepared for you below.

Why Bet on Jacksonville?

Bortles has been a feel-good story for the Jaguars since he was drafted, showing plenty of promise whenever he gets his big arms firing against his opponents. Unfortunately for him, he’s been troubled with turnovers and hasn’t been able to find a way of cleaning up his act. That has been pretty much the case for him this year, as is attested to by his 9-9 Touchdown-Interception ratio on the season, including 2 interceptions against 1 touchdown in last Sunday’s 16-33 loss to Carr and the Oakland Raiders. It wasn’t all Bortles’ fault, though, as the QB didn’t get sufficient support from his run offense and defense, a trend that has worryingly held steady in nearly all Jacksonville games this season. The good news for Jacksonville is that Tennessee’s defense is a work in progress, so the visitors will almost definitely find decent opportunities to move the chains offensively. The bad news, however, is that Tennessee’s defense has played quite well against some good QBs this season, while Mariota and his offense have been on the upswing since Week 1. A very disciplined and error-free performance will thus be required from Bortles and his Jags if they are to score a win this Thursday.

Why Bet on Tennessee?

The Titans were oh-so- close to going one win over their 2015 victory total (3) with a victory over the Colts last Sunday, but Tennessee’s defense made a couple of errors down the stretch, allowing veteran quarterback Andrew Luck and his Indy team to stage a come-from- behind 34- 26 win over Tennessee. The Titans can, however, take a lot of positives from that performance, especially in the offense where Mariota (22-of- 37 passes for 232 passing yards and 2 TDs) had another solid outing, recording his second game in the last three outings without an interception. Tennessee’s #1 tailback, DeMarco Murray, also continued his strong year in Nashville with 107 rushing yards and 1 TD on 25 carries against the Colts. As long as Tennessee’s defense can work on playing better against the Jags, particularly towards the end of the game, claiming a win shouldn’t be much of a problem for the Titans, considering the Mariota-led offense seems to have found its rhythm, having scored 26-or- more points in each of its last three straight outings, all of which have come against opponents that play more-or- less the same like the Jags.

My Betting Predictions and Picks

The last time these two teams met in 2015, they treated us to a thrilling 42-39 shootout win by Tennessee. We don’t expect the same kind of back-and- forth game this Thursday, given that both defenses have improved considerably this season, but we should still be in for a well-scoring encounter that will most likely take the total OVER the set 44 mark. FYI, the OVER has been a dominant trend for both teams with total going OVER in 5 of Tennessee’s last 6 home games, the total going OVER in 4 of Tennessee’s last 5 home games vs. Jacksonville and the total also going OVER in 4 of Jacksonville’s last 6 overall games. Win-wise, the Titans have been more organized than the Jags in offense lately and their defense is also a shoulder above Jacksonville’s, so it would be a major surprise if Tennessee doesn’t win this game handily to cover the cheap spread. Final Score Prediction: Tennessee 28, Jacksonville 21 Writer’s Picks: Tennessee (-3.5), OVER 43.5
