The Miami Dolphins head north for their NFL preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings. Miami lost, 38-31, to the Philadelphia Eagles a week ago, but Minnesota comes in on a winning note, having held off San Francisco, 32-31, in their Week 3 bout. Both of these teams have visions of improving on their 2016 fortunes, as the Dolphins fell in the wild card round of the playoffs, while the Vikings turned a 5-0 start into a disappointing campaign that saw them missing the postseason. Will your NFL betting for the wild card finales include a pick on this game? If so, take a look at our research.

Why should you bet on the Dolphins?

Matt Moore is likely to lead the Dolphins’ offensive attack for much of this game, as the Dolphins don’t want to risk an injury to their second starting quarterback of the year. Jay Cutler left the broadcast booth to sign a contract with the Fish when Ryan Tannehill went down for the year, and Cutler finally looked sharp against Philadelphia, going 5 for 8 for 105 yards and a touchdown, so look for Moore to lead an offense that gained 312 total yards against Philadelphia. But what about that Miami defense? Over the last two weeks, they have permitted a total of 69 points and an eye-popping 808 yards ot total offense. For the preseason as a whole, they have permitted 29.7 points per game, dead last in the NFL. Last year, they only gave up 23.8 points per game in the regular season, which is almost a touchdown less than their current average. They do have a youth movement going on defense, as five of their draft choices were picked to shore up that unit, but it’s time for them to start working together and control opposing offenses. They haven’t shown yet that they can do that, and Week 1 is literally just around the corner at this writing.

Why should you put your money on the Vikings?

We like to think that Minnesota has a solid defense — but they did give up 31 points to San Francisco. That’s right, that’s the team with Brian Hoyer, Matt Barkley and C.J. Beathard as their quarterbacking trio. To be sure, most of the defensive struggles came with reserves on the field, but the whole defense needs to pick things up for the Vikings to have a chance of contending in the NFC North this season, what with Green Bay and Detroit lurking ahead. The Vikings also struggled to move the ball when the starting units were on the field in Week Three. Are the Vikings a safe bet in Week 4 of the NFL Preseason? Minnesota did add tailback Dalvin Cook with their top pick, and they have bolstered their offensive line, so Sam Bradford won’t have to spend so much time on the run this season. However, they have averaged fewer than 80 rushing yards per game so far in this preseason, and those aren’t the sort of numbers that this team needs to put up. The purpose of drafting Cook was to ease the pressure on Bradford, but if the line isn’t opening up holes, things could get ugly in a hurry.

Expert NFL Preseason Pick and Final Score Prediction

Both of these teams have solid systems in place — it appears to be just a matter of execution for both groups. I ee both defenses rising to the occasion in this finale — which means that the reserve quarterbacks leading offenses down the field could find first downs extremely hard to come by. The Vikings are several notches above the Dolphins in terms of talent, so give me MInnesota in a 13-10 slugfest.
