New Orleans at Buffalo Week 10 NFL Spread & Betting Pick

Written by on November 9, 2017

The New Orleans Saints have turned their season around, posting a six-game winning streak after an 0-2 start to sit atop the NFC South. They dominated Tampa Bay last week and head north into the winds of chilly Buffalo to try and extend that streak to seven against the Bills. Buffalo sits at 5-3 and is right in the thick of things in the AFC East. However, they lost their last outing across the state in New York City against the Jets a week ago Thursday. Two potential contenders with things to prove square off on Sunday afternoon from Buffalo. Don’t lock in your wagers until you’ve looked at our NFL spread preview of this matchup.

Why should you bet on the Saints?

Before New Orleans did it this year, two other teams in the Super Bowl era had followed up 0-2 starts with winning streaks of at least six games — the 1993 Dallas Cowboys and the 2007 New York Giants. Both of those teams would end up winning the Super Bowl, so this could be an omen for great things for the Saints. Alvin Kamara has emerged as a major threat in the Saints’ offense, scoring a pair of touchdowns and posting 152 all-purpose yards, a career high. Drew Brees went 22 for 27 for 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns, giving him 13 for the season, compared with just four picks. The Saints have issues on the defensive side of the ball. Those were masked the last two weeks by their opponents — two weeks ago, Chicago was rolling with a rookie quarterback and an iffy offensive line. Last week, Ryan Fitzpatrick had to relieve Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston, who took another hard hit on a shoulder that was already giving him problems. So without real offenses to take on, the Saints haven’t had their porous secondary exposed in a couple of weeks. If you like New Orleans, then you see them moving the ball against Buffalo and finding a stop for Tyrod Taylor.

Why should you put your money on the Bills?

Buffalo has played terrifically this season — particularly at home. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been able to move the ball up and down the field without nearly the trouble that Buffalo had on offense last year. Tailback LeSean McCoy looks five years younger this season, finding plenty of room to run. Given that New Orleans doesn’t have an elite defense — and given that the Saints don’t play that well outdoors, particularly when the elements are not in their favor. Buffalo will be cold on Sunday, and if precipitation plays a factor at all, the Saints might get run out of the stadium. Are the Bills a safe bet in Week 10? The issues that Buffalo have had are on defense. They have only recorded 14 sacks as a team, 26th in the NFL, and just three sacks in the last three games. The lack of a pass rush was one reason why the Jets were able to beat them, as Josh McCown had all day to sit back there in the pocket and find receivers. The challenge escalates against New Orleans. However, the Bills do have a solid secondary anchored by rookie Tre’Davious White.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I’m excited about the momentum the Bills are rolling up this year — and I’m also suspicious of New Orleans away from the Superdome, especially when the possibility of unpleasant weather plays a part. I think the Saints will put in maximum effort in Buffalo, but I see the Bills will come away from this game  in the NFL spread with a big home win against an NFC contender, with a final score of 20-16.
