NFL Betting Odds: Can Niners Bounce Back Against Packers?

Written by on October 2, 2015

The San Francisco 49ers will look to bounce back from a pair of resounding losses when they host the undefeated Green Bay Packers in a Week 4 matchup that looks more like a major mismatch for NFL betting odds fans if you ask me.  Now, let’s find out if the Niners can cover the spread or pull off the outright win at home.

Green Bay at San Francisco NFL Week 4 Game Information and Odds

When: 4:25 PM ET, Sunday, October 4, 2015
Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California
NFL Odds: Green Bay -9.5
Over/Under: 48.5
Green Bay Packers (3-0 SU, 3-0 ATS)
Aaron Rodgers
The Packers rolled all over Kansas City in their 38-28 win on Monday night to cover the spread as a 5.5-point home favorite. Reigning league MVP Aaron Rodgers completed a blistering 24 of 35 passes for 333 yards and an insane five touchdowns. Wide receiver James Jones caught seven passes for 139 yards and one score while fellow wideout Randall Cobb also caught seven balls for 91 yards and three touchdowns.
San Francisco (1-2 SU, 1-2 ATS)
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers got blown out of the water in their 47-7 Week 3 loss to Arizona just one week after getting smacked around in their 43-18 road loss to Pittsburgh. The Niners failed to cover the spread as a 7-point underdog. San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick completed just 9 of 19 passes for a woeful 67 yards with a whopping four interceptions. The Niners’ once formidable defense also allowed Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer to throw for 311 yards and two touchdowns while veteran running back Chris Johnson added 110 yards and two more scores on 22 carries. The 49ers are ranked dead last in scoring (15.0 ppg) and next-to-last in stopping the opposition (31.0 ppg).
Game Analysis:
67 percent of the betting public likes Green Bay to cover the spread as double-digit road favorites and I’m certainly not going to disagree after watching the pair of pitiful performances the Niners have staged the last two weeks. I mean, it’s kind of tough to back any team that has been outscored 90-25 over a two-game stretch and parted ways with its outstanding head coach because of personality conflicts, not to mention the slew of retirements that Frisco had to endure this past offseason.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers have the look of a legitimate Super Bowl title contender while the Niners look like they’ll be in the running for the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Green Bay has gone 6-1 ATS in its last seven games while San Francisco has gone 1-8 ATS in its last nine games.
Carlos Hyde61 percent of the betting public likes the Over and again, I’m in agreement here, mostly because the Packers are putting points on the board like crazy and San Francisco apparently can’t stop a really good high school team from scoring on them right now. The total has gone Over in 17 of Green Bay’s last 25 games and 14 of the Pack’s last 20 road games.
The Pick: Green Bay 42 San Francisco 17
