NY Jets at San Francisco Week 14 Betting Spread & Pick

Written by on December 7, 2016

Two of NFL’s we-have- no-business- playing-in- the-league teams will be playing going against each other this weekend when the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers meet in Santa Clara for a Sunday afternoon Week 14 NFL fixture. With the two teams combining for a 4-20 record so far this season; it’s safe to say that this game could be unwatchable as both teams expose their season-long ugliness on the field. Still, with a bit of a rivalry between these two teams and both sides looking to finish the season respectably, there should be enough football played on the field to decide a winner. And because of the latter reason, it’s only right that we do our due diligence by guiding bettors on how to wager on this game. Here is a brief NFL odds preview of this encounter.

NY Jets at San Francisco Week 14 Betting Spread & Pick

Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA When: Sunday, December 11, 4:05 PM ET TV: CBS Radio: New York / San Francisco Live Stream: NFL Live NFL Lines: San Francisco (-1), OVER/UNDER 44.5

Why Bet on the Jets?

If the 49ers had a horrendous day in their 20-point loss to the Bears on Sunday night, then the Jets had galactic catastrophe in their home shellacking at the hands of the Colts on Monday night. The New York defense was utterly clueless on stopping Andrew Luck, who begun torching the Jets D right from the get go, and continued to do so up to the point where he exited the game with four touchdown passes and 278 passing yards against zero interceptions on 22-of- 28 passing. The old Frank Gore was just as efficient, as he had 20 carries for 79 yards. The most surprising part, though, was the fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty could only muster 10 measly points and 250 total yards of offense against Indy’s porous defense. Certainly not the kind of performance the Jets were looking to have on National TV. However, it’s not all a broken record for the 3-9 Jets who have now lost four in a row. Petty, who went 11-of- 25 for 135 yards and the Jets’ only TD (plus two interceptions) when he was brought in during the second half, has been installed as NY’s starting QB for the remainder of the season, which should give him sufficient time to prove his worth. And with proven weapons like Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte to help him out, Petty could easily be due for a good outing. Defensively, the Jets have held their own well enough this season—save for last week’s meltdown—so there should be hope for a better showing this Sunday, especially with San Francisco dealing with its inconsistencies in offense.

Why Bet on the 49ers?

After throwing for 296 yards and three touchdowns plus rushing for a season-high 113 yards in a spirited 31-24 road loss to the Dolphins in Week 12, Collin Kaepernick fell flat on his arms last week, going 1-of- 5 passing for four yards and getting sacked five times against the Bears, leading to him being yanked out of the game in favor of Blaine Gabbert in the fourth quarter. Expectedly, Gabbert wasn’t able to do much either in the game and the Niners ended up with a 26-6 loss to the Bears. The Niners, losers of their last 11 straight games since the opening season victory over the Rams, are however hoping to fare better at home this Sunday as they take on the equally hapless Jets, with Kaepernick announced as the team’s starter. Besides his horror show against the Bears, Kaep has been rather decent at QB, so he should be good for a bounce-back performance if he can clean up his mistakes. More than that, the Niners will be extremely motivated for a chance to win this game, considering that they’ve owned the series against the Jets. San Francisco is 10-2 All-time against the Jets, including a currently running two-game winning streak and a solid 4-1 home record over the New Yorkers.

NFL Betting Predictions and Picks:

In all honesty, there are too many question marks in this game to confidently pick one side for the win. Nonetheless, we are leaning on the Niners on the basis of their good history against the Jets and the expectation that Kaepernick will outduel the inexperienced Petty to lead San Francisco to its second win of the season. If you are looking for the smartest pick, though, we recommend taking the OVER side of the total, considering we will predictably have an open- ended affair mixed with miscues returned for scores, which should help the total go above the 44-point mark. Final Score Prediction: San Francisco 27, NY Jets 24 Writer’s NFL Picks: *San Francisco (-1), OVER 44.5
