Oakland at Buffalo NFL Odds & Expert Analysis for Week 8

Written by on October 26, 2017

The Buffalo Bills sit at 4-2, just a half-game behind New England for the lead in the AFC East. They welcome the 3-4 Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders were headed for real trouble, until they pulled out a miraculous 31-30 win over Kansas City last Thursday. The Bills knocked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 30-27 last Sunday. These two teams tangled out in California last year, with the Raiders winning, 38-24. Oakland has struggled to move the ball as well as they did last year — although their win over Kansas City may have changed all that. Buffalo has come out with a fiery attitude on both sides of the ball this year, and Bills fans are optimistic that their lengthy playoff drought may come to an end. Check out our NFL odds insights on this AFC tilt.

Why should you bet on the Raiders?

It actually took more than 60 minutes for Oakland to pull out the win against the Chiefs, as the Raiders were granted two untimed plays, and Derek Carr cashed in with a touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree. In the game, Carr went 29 for 52 for 417 yards and three scores — without a single pick. It looks like he has put his back injury woes behind him, at least for now. Amari Cooper had a huge night, hauling in 11 passes for 210 yards and two scores. That was 64 yards more than he had gained the entire season in receiving yards. Oakland’s defense showed some cracks again with the Chiefs in town. Kansas City threw the ball for 331 yards — but they only ran for 94, and the Bills feature a run-first offense. If the Raiders can bottle up that running game, then they have an excellent chance. That win over Kansas City should give the Raiders the confidence they need to go across the country and pick up a key win against another playoff contender.

Why should you put your money on the Bills?

Buffalo also pulled out a win late last week, as Stephen Hauschka nailed a field goal with 14 seconds left on the fourth period. The Bills took advantage of a Tampa Bay fumble at their own 33 after the two-minute warning, and so Buffalo simply drained the clock and nailed a field goal. Buffalo ran for 173 yards on the day, led by 91 yards and two scores from LeSean McCoy. If the Bills’ line can keep opening up holes for the Buffalo running game, they could keep Derek Carr off the field and make this a long day for the Raiders. Are the Bills a safe bet in Week 8? The Buffalo defense has had a hard time against the pass — despite drafting Tre’Davious White from LSU to join their secondary. Tampa Bay threw the ball for 378 yards last week, and Derek Carr finally looked like he was back from his injury in the win over Kansas City. Carr picked them apart for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Raiders’ win last year. If you like the Bills, you see them running the ball at will against that Oakland defense and frustrating Carr with a steady pass rush.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like what both teams have been able to accomplish at different points this season. The Raiders have one of the most dangerous passing games in the AFC, while the Bills have developed a bruising identity and love to control the line of scrimmage. I see the Raiders breaking through the Bills’ secondary and moving the ball up and down the field and winning by a score of 27-23. So take Oakland in the NFL odds for Week 8.
