NFL Packers vs Falcons Odds, Analysis and Prediction for Week 2

Written by on September 15, 2023

Cordarrelle Patterson is set to return for the Atlanta Falcons as they prepare to welcome the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 of the 2023 NFL regular season. Patterson, an All-Pro player, is a key part of the Atlanta offense. The team even set up the “Joker” position for him – because he can line up at tailback, wide receiver, or tight end. This means that the Falcons’ offense will have even more firepower than it did in their Week 1 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Patterson will join Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier in getting carries – and remember that quarterback Desmond Ridder is a threat to run as well. The Packers come in after beating the Chicago Bears easily in their opener, but the Falcons have a stronger offensive attack. Who will win on Sunday? Don’t miss our sports betting prediction for NFL Packers vs Falcons.

Why should you bet on the Packers?

Jordan Love looked more than comfortable in his debut as the QB1 in Green Bay. He went 15 of 27 for 245 yards and three scores, showing efficiency even with Christian Watson not on the field. He did miss some throws, and his completion percentage needs to increase, but a 38-point nice for the offense is a solid beginning. The Atlanta defense did limit Bryce Young to just 14 points in his quarterback debut, but they also permitted 154 rushing yards in the win. Last year, the Falcons ranked 25th in yards permitted per play, which means Green Bay should also find some room to operate.

The Packers have covered the spread in five of their last six games overall, while the Falcons have covered just four times in their last 12. In their last nine games against NFC North teams, the Falcons have only covered twice. The biggest question on Green Bay’s injury list is tailback Aaron Jones (questionable with a hamstring issue). Hamstrings can be tricky and take a long time to heal, but we’ll see how long it takes Jones to come back.

Why should you put your money on the Falcons?

The Falcons rolled over the Carolina Panthers, 24-10, in Week 1. The offensive numbers for the Falcons were typically minimalistic as the team gained just 221 yards. Desmond Rider was 15 of 18 in the passing game but only threw for 115 yards. He had a touchdown pass but did not throw an interception. In other words, he did a solid job guiding the team down the field, with the running game as the emphasis, throwing carefully when he needed to.

In the running game, The Falcons picked up 130 yards, 75 from Allgeier, who picked up five yards per attempt. Bijan Robinson had 56 yards on 10 carries and 27 receiving yards and a touchdown on a brilliant juke move in the flat after a reception. The Packers were 26th in rushing defense last year, and while they did add some defenders in the draft, the focus of their approach is much more on stopping the pass – so the Falcons should be able to get some yards on the ground.

Final Score and Prediction

Neither one of these defenses is elite, and while the Falcons play a more plodding style than the Packers, both teams should be able to get in the end zone on multiple occasions. I think Love can lead the Packers to victory down in Atlanta – the line, though, has shifted from Green Bay -1 to Atlanta -1. I don’t see the game going this way, so take advantage of this imbalance. I predict a final score of Green Bay 30, Atlanta 23. So take Green Bay, and take the over.
