Bet on the Eagles? Check out their Top Games & Expert Insights for the 2024 season

The Philadelphia Eagles head into 2024 looking to make the postseason for a fourth straight year.

After starting strong at 10-1, the team’s slide ended at 11-6, losing the NFC East title to Dallas. They were then defeated by Tampa Bay 32-9 in the wild-card game.

Head coach Nick Sirianni brought in two new coordinators (Kellen Moore on offense and Vic Fangio on defense) for the second season in a row, and the team added tailback Saquon Barkley to boost the offense.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has recommitted himself to showing more vocal leadership, and fans in Philadelphia are excited going into the season.

NFL Betting Analysis: Top Regular Season Games for the Philadelphia Eagles

Check out our thoughts on some of the most exciting games – and perhaps the best sports betting opportunities – on the Eagles’ slate.

Week 1: vs Green Bay Packers (in Rio de Janeiro)

This game was intriguing as soon as the matchup was set. It’s a Philadelphia “home” game, but the legendary tailgates and raucous fans that normally mark a Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field won’t be part of the equation as this is set for Brazil – on a Friday night.

This is the NFL’s debut in South America, but even though it takes place in Week 1, it could have huge implications as the season winds down.

Both of these teams figure to contend in the NFC, so it could be a head-to-head matchup that plays a role in postseason seeding.

The Eagles have had a more productive offseason than the Packers have, but Jordan Love figured out the NFL quarterback position in the last quarter of the 2023 season and during his team’s run to the divisional round of the playoffs last year.

Week 7: at N.Y. Giants

Saquon Barkley will face his former teammates (and his former fans).

After spending most of his NFL career having to carry an offense, as the Giants have failed to find a franchise quarterback, having Jalen Hurts to share the load should be a revelation.

While the Giants should get up for this game – after all, it’s an NFC East game, and each of those is rich with rivalry – this should also demonstrate the talent gap between the Eagles and Giants at this point.

at Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8

Jalen Hurts last saw Joe Burrow on a football field in 2019, at the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Back then, Burrow led LSU on an absolute torching of the Oklahoma Sooners, although it wasn’t really Hurts’ fault that Oklahoma’s then-coach, Lincoln Riley, didn’t really believe that defense was important.

Burrow missed much of last season due to several different injuries, but when Burrow has been healthy, Cincinnati has either made it to the AFC Championship or the Super Bowl, so this will be a huge showdown and potential Super Bowl preview.

Week 10: at Dallas Cowboys / Week 17: vs Dallas Cowboys

As mediocre as Dallas has been for the last generation, they have beaten Philadelphia at home each year since 2017, so this is a pair of games that will influence the division title race.

Despite the fanfare in this rivalry, though, neither game will air in prime-time (unless the league flexes the Week 17 game) for the first time since 2006.

Dallas failed to add any significant free-agent upgrades in the off-season, so the Eagles have an excellent shot at sweeping this series.

at Baltimore Ravens in Week 13

This is another quarterback duel between the NFC East and the AFC North, as Lamar Jackson should be rejuvenated by the arrival of Derrick Henry at tailback.

Baltimore might be the toughest team that Philadelphia plays this year, with the possible exception of Cincinnati, and the Eagles have never beaten the Ravens in Baltimore.

They haven’t won at all in Baltimore, in fact, since they beat the then-Baltimore Colts there in 1978, when the Colts played at Memorial Stadium.

Philadelphia Eagles Odds, June 26, 2024

My Analysis

After 11 games, the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles had a 10-1 record. No other NFL team had a record better than 8-3. It looked like the Eagles were going to cruise to the NFC’s bye and perhaps even a Super Bowl championship.

Then came the freefall, as the Eagles dropped five of six to finish 11-6, allowing the Dallas Cowboys to snatch the NFC East crown from them.

Those losses included a 23-point setback against San Francisco, a 20-point loss to Dallas, and a 17-point road loss to the dreadful Giants in the season finale that handed the division title to the Cowboys.

Their playoff game was a 32-9 tattooing at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. By the time the dust cleared, the Eagles looked like the least competent team in the NFL.

Going into 2024, the team has new offensive and defensive coordinators, and Nick Sirianni is on the hot seat as head coach. Can the Eagles turn things around and get back to dominating the NFC East?

Read on to see their NFL betting odds on a number of futures wagers, as well as our thoughts on their season prospects.

Jason Kelce

First, let’s look at a couple of reasons to be pessimistic. The retirement of Kelce leaves a huge hole on the offensive line.

He wasn’t the biggest center in the NFL, but no center was faster at getting down the field to cover in front of screens, moving to the second level to help running plays, or pulling on plays to the outside.

Jason learned how to use leverage to control defensive tackles who were much bigger, and he was very durable, setting a team record for 157 starts in a row.

Furthermore, he is the top factor in the success of the short-yardage “Brotherly Shove” play. Cam Jurgens fills his shoes in his third NFL season, and it will take a while for him to get through the learning curve.

Jalen Hurts

Hurts was the leading MVP candidate through the first half of the 2023 season. Then, things started to fall apart, and the team didn’t seem to have his back.

Jalen Hurts started to get lazy on blocking for running plays – but the team also didn’t come to his aid when he took some big, late hits in Week 17 and Week 18.

That’s very unusual for a quarterback’s offensive line not to take umbrage when their signal-caller gets the lumber laid on him after the whistle has blown.

It will be interesting to see, going into 2024, if Hurts has lost the locker room.

Eagles Movements

Even with the loss of Kelce, NFL O-line expert Brandon Thorn has the Eagles’ offensive line ranked second in the league.

Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson, and Landon Dickerson are all back, and the biggest question is at right guard. At camp, 2023 third-rounder Tyler Steen and free-agent signing Mekhi Becton will be fighting for the job.

Becton is moving inside from tackle (and has a history of lengthy injury rehabs), and Steen only started one game as a rookie.

Either one of these players should work out, given the quality of O-line coach Jeff Stoutland and the quality of the rest of the line.

With respect to Hurts’ leadership, in an interview this week, Lane Johnson noted that Hurts has taken on more of a vocal role.

That was a criticism that the team had for him as 2023 came to a close. It’s important to remember that Hurts is still a young quarterback making his way; his gifts make it hard to remember that the intangibles still require a lot of seasoning.

If you look at what the Eagles have done in the off-season (such as signing tailback Saquon Barkley), and if you look at the pending rebuild in Dallas and the lack of talent in Washington and New York, the Eagles’ NFC East crown is all but theirs before Week 1 even starts.
