NFL Quarterbacks to consider in your NFC East Betting Picks

NFL Quarterbacks to consider in your NFC East Betting Picks

While Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is coordinating with Netflix to put together another documentary about the 1990s, when the team won three Super Bowl in four years, the rest of the NFL is focusing on the arrival of the 2023 season. It’s been 27 years since the Cowboys won a Super Bowl – or even played in a conference championship – and the Cowboys have been passed by the Philadelphia Eagles as the class of the NFC East. Let’s break down the four starting quarterbacks in the Cowboys’ and Eagles’ division as you start to line up your NFL betting picks for the coming season.

NFL Betting News: Ranking the Starting Quarterbacks in the NFC East

Jalen Hurts

Team: Philadelphia Eagles
#1 | 2022 Stats: 3,701 YDS – 22 TD – 6 INT – 66.4 QBR

Remember when Tua Tagovailoa came on at halftime in relief of Jalen Hurts in the College Football Playoff national championship? Hurts had struggled to keep the Alabama offense going against a stiff Georgia defense, so Nick Saban brought in the freshman, who led the Tide to a comeback win in overtime. Hurts transferred to Oklahoma but never got back in the national spotlight. Since he came to the NFL, though, Hurts has just become a better and better passer. Whether he’s throwing from the pocket or scrambling, he is a dangerous playmaker with his arm. His running ability makes him a threat to break open plays without throwing the ball, adding to the efficiency of the Philadelphia running game.

Dak Prescott

Team: Dallas Cowboys
#4 | 2022 Stats: 2,860 YDS – 23 TD – 15 INT – 57.9 QBR

The Dallas offense was fourth in the NFL in points per game, even though they had to play five games without Prescott. In those five games, with Cooper Rush at the helm, the offense put up 21.6 points per game. With Prescott in the lineup, that number increased to 30. If you look back over the last two seasons, the Cowboys lead the NFL in scoring average; in Prescott’s career, he has played 97 games, and the team has averaged 26.6 points in those contests. So why isn’t Prescott the top quarterback on this list? His ball security is a major issue; he had the most interceptions of any starting quarterback in 2022 despite missing four starts and part of a fifth game. Also, his decision-making at key points is a problem, as we have seen in the team’s playoff losses the last two years. The contrast for Prescott between the easy win over Tampa Bay in the wild-card playoff round and the loss to San Francisco in the divisional round was glaring: against the Buccaneers, Prescott was confident and made plays down the field. Against the 49ers, though, he got flustered and turned the ball over too often.

Daniel Jones

Team: New York Giants
#8 | 2022 Stats: 3,205 YDS – 15 TD – 5 INT – 60.8 QBR

Jones not only led the G-men to the playoffs, but the Giants delivered an impressive win in the wild-card round. The New York offense does not push the ball down the field but instead uses a grinding approach, running the ball with both Jones and Saquon Barkley. Jones has Brian Daboll mentoring him – and Daboll also mentored Josh Allen. Jones doesn’t have the same arm strength or the physicality that Allen does, but he has shown that he can use his legs to make defenses soften up against the pass. The Giants brought in Jalin Hyatt at wide receiver, so Jones should have at least one target who can stretch the field this season.

Bet on the Giants!

Sam Howell / Jacoby Brissett

Team: Washington Commanders
#14 | 2022 Howell Stats: 169 YDS – 1 TD – 1 INT – 46.4 QBR :: #12 | 2022 Brissett Stats: 2,608 YDS – 12 TD – 6 INT – 60.0 QBR

Sam Howell looked solid in a meaningless Week 18 win over Dallas last season, and the team added Jacoby Brissett to put some veteran talent in the mix at that position. Brissett did a decent job leading the Cleveland offense last year as Deshaun Watson served his 11-game suspension, but the Browns’ defense let the team down repeatedly as the team went just 4-7 in those games. Howell has some issues with his mechanics, particularly in his legs, to work out before he becomes a regular starting quarterback at the NFL level. Howell played well at North Carolina and has a high ceiling, but the lack of talent at the skill positions around him will keep both him and Brissett from putting up gaudy yards this year.

Bet on the Commanders!
