NFL Quarterbacks Matchups and Betting Picks for each Wild Card Game

NFL Quarterbacks Matchups and Betting Picks for each Wild Card Game

Written by on January 10, 2024

If you love the NFL playoffs, then this weekend will keep you smiling from Saturday afternoon through Monday night, as wild-card weekend features six different games. Saturday has Cleveland visiting Houston as a road favorite and Kansas City hosting Miami in a night game that has a forecast temperature of zero degrees Fahrenheit. Sunday send Pittsburgh to Buffalo, Green Bay to Dallas, and the Rams to Detroit as Matthew Stafford returns to his original NFL home. On Monday night, the Philadelphia Eagles will be in Tampa Bay to see if they can turn around the negative vibes of that 1-5 stretch with which they finished the season. We break down the NFL Wild Card Quarterback battle in each game to help you plan your NFL betting.

NFL Wild Card Quarterback Matchups: Odds for Each Game

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) at Houston Texans

When: Saturday, January 13, 4:30 pm ET
NFL Odds: Cleveland -145 / Houston +125 / O/U 44.5

Three quarterbacks in these playoffs already own Super Bowl rings, and one of them is Joe Flacco. Along with Patrick Mahomes, he is just one of two to have won a Super Bowl MVP trophy. He has a 10-5 record all-time in the postseason, all in Baltimore, but he hasn’t started a playoff game in nine seasons. He will square off against Houston’s C.J. Stroud, a rookie who has shown absolutely no fear, and now that he and Nico Collins have established chemistry, the Texans have plenty of confidence. Expect a relatively high-scoring game, especially with this contest inside a dome on a cold weekend.

Miami Dolphins (+3.5) at Kansas City Chiefs

When: Saturday, January 13, 8:00 pm ET
NFL Odds: Kansas City -190 / Miami +160 / O/U 43.5

Patrick Mahomes has an 11-3 all-time record in the playoffs, with a 107.4 passer rating, the best in NFL history. The frigid temperatures won’t influence him as much as they will Tua Tagovailoa, who has never played for a home team north of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Tagovailoa has the better receiving group, but Mahomes knows how to finish – and Tagovailoa still has to be shaking his head after that loss to Buffalo that sent the Dolphins on the road this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+10) at Buffalo Bills

When: Sunday, January 14, 1:00 pm ET
NFL Odds: Buffalo -500 / Pittsburgh +380 / O/U 35.5

Mason Rudolph will make his fourth start in a row for the Steelers even though the team still lists a healthy Kenny Pickett as the team’s QB1 on its official depth chart. Rudolph has the Pittsburgh offense cooking, and coach Mike Tomlin wants to stay with the hot hand. The Steelers will face Josh Allen, who continues to show that the Bills’ offense will go as far as he wants it to go – or at least as far as it can before he turns the ball over. The Bills’ win over Miami could have been a rout last week, but Allen had two end-zone interceptions and also fumbled the ball away in field goal range before righting the ship. He should be able to guide the Bills through the Steelers’ defense fairly easily, especially with T.J. Watt out for Pittsburgh.

Green Bay Packers (+7.5) at Dallas Cowboys

When: Sunday, January 14, 4:30 pm ET
NFL Odds: Dallas -350 / Green Bay +280 / O/U 50.5

Dak Prescott is putting up MVP-level numbers in 2023, leading the league in touchdown passes a year after leading in interceptions. The team’s decision to go with a more aggressive passing game near the midpoint of the season has amped up the team’s production and made the Cowboys more dangerous of an opponent, even without a credible threat at tailback. They face a Green Bay team that has nothing to lose, with a young, mobile quarterback in Jordan Love. He has a cannon arm and can throw on the run while extending plays, which can hurt the Dallas defense. He has the personnel and the scheme to stay ahead of Dallas, but can the Packers’ defense get stops?

L.A. Rams (+3.5) at Detroit Lions

When: Sunday, January 14, 8:15 pm ET
NFL Odds: Detroit -175 / Los Angeles +150 / O/U 51.5

Jared Goff hosts his former team in the Lions’ first home playoff contest in 30 seasons. Matthew Stafford returns to Detroit after winning a Super Bowl in his first season away from the Motor City, and his top two targets, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, are both healthy and dangerous at the same time. Goff has been a steady hand all season but won’t have rookie tight end Sam LaPorta on the field. Can Goff carve up the Rams’ secondary without LaPorta? Can the Detroit secondary slow down Stafford?

Philadelphia Eagles (-3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When: Monday, January 15, 8:15 pm ET
NFL Odds: Philadelphia -150 / Tampa Bay +130 / O/U 44.5

Baker Mayfield has a 1-1 career in the postseason, with a 62% pass completion rate, a 94.0 passer rating, 467 passing yards, four touchdown passes – and zero picks. He has the Buccaneers finishing 2023 on a high note, while Jalen Hurts heads to Tampa Bay looking like he still has a sore knee. The Eagles started 2023 10-1 but finished 11-6 to end up on the road to start the postseason. Hurts does have an 84.7 passer rating through four games and a 9:2 TD:INT ratio, but it will be interesting to see if the Philadelphia defense can keep things close enough for Hurts to make a difference.
