The Cincinnati Bengals released offensive tackle La’el Collins just a few days ahead of their Week 2 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. Collins took a while to get going in 2022 but had a strong second half of the season…until he tore an ACL in December. He continues to rehab that injury, and he began this season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. The team added tackle Orlando Brown Jr via free agency in the offseason, making Collins expendable. The team has younger tackles to take the depth role, and this move gives the team more cap relief or flexibility after they inked quarterback Joe Burrow to a mammoth contract extension. The Bengals look to bounce back from an ugly 24-3 loss to Cleveland in Week 1, while the Ravens look to improve from an uneven offensive performance in a shaky win over the Houston Texans. Why should you bet on the Ravens?
The Ravens did control most of their opener, stopping Houston by a 25-9 score. Tailback J.K. Dobbins went down for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, though, and safety Marcus Williams injured a shoulder. The offense as a whole looked uncomfortable as they continue to work in the new scheme of new OC Todd Monken. Lamar Jackson threw a pair of picks and the team only gained 265 total yards on the day. The Ravens were up just 7-6 at the half but limited the Texans to a single field goal after the intermission.
Without Dobbins, the team still has Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon, and Justice Hill to carry the ball, so don’t expect the running game to lose any of its emphasis. Wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr, Nelson Agholor and Zay Flowers join tight end Mark Andrews in running routes, but none of them will get big numbers if Jackson keeps throwing the ball to the other team. On defense, the middle is weaker against the run after the team lost Calais Campbell and Brandon Williams. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey is also injured, and the team is missing safety Chuck Clark, so teams with a better offensive pedigree than the Texans could feast.

Why should you put your money on the Bengals?
Cincinnati only managed 142 total yards of offense, or 2.6 yards per play. The team picked up just 67 passing yards in their loss to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns, in contrast, picked up 206 yards in the running game alone, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Joe Burrow looked harried in the pocket as the Browns kept pressuring him in his first game after going down with a calf strain over a month ago. The team still has Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and Burrow started 2022 on a sour note as well, in a bizarre loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Bengals’ defense lost both starting safeties in the offseason, and the pass rush was already a problem as only three teams logged fewer sacks than Cincinnati did a year ago. Deshaun Watson was not really able to take advantage of the poor secondary play thanks to his own issues with accuracy, but if Lamar Jackson is sharp, this could turn into a long day – or a track meet of a game.

Final Score and Prediction
I expect the Bengals to bounce back from a tough opener, and I also expect the Ravens to look more together on offense. The two defenses seem to have taken a step back from a year ago, so I see this turning into an offensive exhibition. I predict a final score of Cincinnati 30, Baltimore 27, so take the Bengals to win – and take the over.
