Rumors & Betting News for the Upcoming 2023 NFL Season

Written by on March 30, 2023

When it comes to the trade rumor mill in the NFL, the biggest name out there right now is Lamar Jackson. Representing himself instead of relying on an agent, Jackson has not been able to get the contract he wants from the Baltimore Ravens and has now requested a trade. According to Inside the NFL analyst Brandon Marshall, the New England Patriots are likely to make a play for Jackson. The Indianapolis Colts have also expressed an interest. Both of these teams could use quarterbacks to bolster rosters that have talent elsewhere, although the Colts seem to be ahead of the Patriots at this point – except at quarterback. Let’s look at some other trade tumors that could also influence your NFL futures wagering on this fall’s action.

NFL News: Trade Rumors that may Affect Your Futures Wagers

What about Aaron Rodgers?

It seems like the rumors about Rodgers going to the Jets have been around for months now. The Packers have reportedly held out for the Jets’ 13th overall pick as compensation, but the Jets aren’t going to give that up. Why? Rodgers isn’t a long-term option. It’s unlikely that he will be able to start for them for more than two or three seasons. A couple of second-round picks over the next two seasons is more likely. The Packers want to deal Rodgers, because they’re ready to move on to Jordan Love. It might seem like they have leverage over the Jets, but the Packers are the team that wants to transition to the next era, while the Jets are looking to win now, and there are other names out there that can do that too.v

Seattle is in the running for a quarterback in the draft

Pete Carroll and John Schneider were jetting around the country, heading to college pro days all over the nation. The Seahawks did just ink Geno Smith to an extension, but the Seahawks have the fifth overall pick, and even if Smith is a somewhat long-term solution, the Seahawks could use a quarterback-in-waiting. One quarterback that Carroll is apparently very interested in is Anthony Richardson from Florida.

Allen Robinson and DeAndre Hopkins are available

Allen Robinson joined the Rams before the 2022 regular season, but he was underwhelming for the team, and the Rams have him on the market. The problem is that no NFL teams are coming and looking for him. He has a $10 million guaranteed salary for 2023 and will turn 30 in August. He just got a $5.25 million roster bonus a couple of weeks ago. A trade would save $6.85 million for the Rams under the 2023 salary cap. However, for the Rams to get rid of him, they would likely have to eat a lot of that salary, so he might not save them that much. The problem is that the league views him as maybe a $2 million receiver, not a $10 million one. If you’re wondering about comparable receivers, Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson counts just $4.1 million against the camp. Adam Thielen counts $3.3 million. So there’s no way Robinson, who had 339 receiving yards in ten games last year, will be worth $10 million to anyone.

Hopkins is also 30 and has a $19.45 million base salary for 2023 and a $14.9 million salary for 2024. Neither amount is guaranteed, and Arizona is in the middle of another rebuild. Hopkins would like to jump to a team that needs an elite receiver and will guarantee his salary. However, there aren’t many teams out there that can add that kind of cash under the salary cap, so he will likely have to restructure his deal. Hopkins was decent when he came back from his suspension last season, but without Kyler Murray, his numbers dwindled.
