SU Picks for NFL Week 9

There’s one just one unbeaten team remaining in the NFL — and it’s the Pittsburgh Steelers, who take their 7-0 record down to Dallas this week to take on the feckless, 2-6 Cowboys. Dallas had four takeaways against Philadelphia on Sunday night (two interceptions and two fumbles by Carson Wentz) but still could only muster nine points, thanks to a Swiss cheese offensive line and the fact that they are down to their third-string quarterback. The Cleveland Browns only had six possessions in their 16-6 loss to the Raiders, the fewest by one team in a game since 1960. The Raiders ran the play clock down each time they came to the line of scrimmage because of the combination of rain and driving wind coming in off Lake Erie.

NFL News:  SU Picks for Week 9

Bye Week: Cincinnati, Cleveland, L.A. Rams, Philadelphia

Thursday, November 5

Green Bay (-2.5) at San Francisco (8:20 pm ET, FOX / NFL Network)

Yes, the San Francisco 49ers have lost Jimmy Garoppolo (high ankle sprain) and George Kittle (foot fracture) for the next month or so. That means Nick Mullens starts at quarterback for the Niners. However, the Packers are on a short week and flying to the West Coast. Over the past 12 years, that scenario has happened 11 times for teams located in the Eastern or Central time zones. The traveling teams have lost all 11 games, and only one game even went to a push. Plus, San Francisco can still pound the ball on the ground. San Francisco to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Sunday, November 8

Early Games

Denver (+4) at Atlanta (CBS)

Atlanta is 2-12 straight up in their last 14 games against AFC teams. Denver is just 3-9 straight up in their last 12 games against the NfC. However, Denver has won their last two road games. They also posted a monster comeback against the Chargers last week, so they have some momentum. Broncos to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Seattle (-3) at Buffalo (FOX)

The Seahawks have won 15 of their last 20 games against AFC teams, including six of their last seven. Since the start of the 2018 campaign, the Seahawks are 9-0 in the Eastern time zone. The Bills have been struggling in recent weeks; Josh Allen will find more open people down the field, but the Buffalo defense will have a hard time corraling Russell Wilson. Seahawks to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Chicago (+6) at Tennessee (FOX)

The Titans just lost to the Cincinnati Bengals. However, they are 8-2 in their last ten games when they were favored by at least six games. The Bears have a terrific defense, but their offense looks slower each week. Titans to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Baltimore (-3.5) at Indianapolis (CBS)

The Ravens have won nine in a row on the road. The Colts have lost seven in a row when they were a home underdog of at least three points. The Ravens also have some frustration to work out after losing at home to the Steelers last week. Ravens to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Carolina (+11.5) at Kansas City (FOX)

It’s a big line, and in Carolina quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s career as a starter, his teams have covered in 74 percent of his games. But this is just asking for a straight-up pick, and I like Kansas City to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Detroit (+3) at Minnesota (CBS)

Which Vikings team will show up? Which Lions team will show up? Minnesota has won five straight in this rivalry, by an average of 13 points. However, Detroit has won three straight on the road. Vikings to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

N.Y. Giants (+3.5) at Washington (FOX)

The Giants have won just once in their last seven road games. They showed a lot of growth against Tampa Bay, though. The problem is that this game is a road tilt, and the G-men are 4-14 in their last 18 games outside of Gotham. Washington to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Houston (-7) at Jacksonville (CBS)

Mike Glennon will start at quarterback for Jacksonville. Houston has won 11 of the 13 meetings since the start of the 2014 campaign, and they won in Week 5, 30-140 Houston to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Late Games

Las Vegas (+3) at L.A. Chargers (FOX)

The Raiders swept this series in 2019, and they are 4-2 on the road this season. Raiders to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Pittsburgh at Dallas (CBS)

Ben Roethlisberger vs either Andy Dalton or Ben DiNucci would be your quarterback rivalry here. Plus the Cowboys can’t stop the pass or the run. Steelers to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Miami (+5.5) at Arizona (CBS)

Yes, Miami beat the Rams in Tua Tagovailoa’s starting debut. However, he threw for just 92 yards, as the Dolphins got a special teams touchdown and two defensive touchdowns. Arizona to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Sunday Night Football

New Orleans (+4.5) at Tampa Bay (8:20 pm ET, NBC)

Tom Brady vs Drew Brees — and this time, the Bucs have figured out the defensive side of things, and Brady has more offensive weapons. Bucs to win. | Bet on the Game Now!

Monday Night Football

New England (-7.5) at N.Y. Jets (7:15 pm ET, ESPN)

New England is 12-2 in their last 14 meetings with the Jets, who come in at 0-8. Pats to win. | Bet on the Game Now!
