The Sunday Night Football Betting Guide: Odds, Picks, and Analysis You Need to Know

The Sunday Night Football Betting Guide: Odds, Picks, and Analysis You Need to Know

As we approach the 2024 NFL regular season, that means it’s time to get ready for the prime-time show with the highest ratings, year in and year out – SNF.

The first installment will come on Sunday, September 8, as the L.A. Rams meet the Detroit Lions meet in a rematch of last year’s wild-card playoff game.

Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth will handle the play-by-play and color commentary duties again.

While the league does have the option of moving games in and out of prime time as the season goes forward, we will look at the schedule as it sits today and make some NFL betting.

NFL Betting Rundown on the 2024 Sunday Night Football Games | All SNF games at 8:20 pm ET except Week 16

L.A. Rams (+3.5) at Detroit Lions (O/U 51) Week 1

This game brings Matthew Stafford back to Detroit again, but the game has a lot less drama than last season’s wild-card playoff game.

The Lions have revamped a secondary that was their undoing in a couple of late-season losses and in their second-half collapse in the NFC Championship in San Francisco.

The Rams have lost Aaron Donald from their pass rush, so their defense won’t be as tough to deal with, but they do have both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua healthy and running routes. Lions to win and cover.

Chicago Bears (+4) at Houston Texans (O/U 47) Week 2

Caleb Williams vs C.J. Stroud makes for an intriguing matchup of young quarterbacks surrounded by loads of talent at wide receiver.

The likes of Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore will elevate the Bears’ passing game, while Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs will be getting open for the Texans.

The Houston defense should make life difficult for Williams, though, making this a likely big day for Houston. Texans to win and cover.

Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) at Atlanta Falcons (O/U 49) Week 3

It will be interesting to see how Kirk Cousins takes to life in Atlanta. He’ll have a terrific tailback in Bijan Robinson, but the O-line and the defense are still largely under construction.

The Chiefs tend to start slowly, and the likely suspension of Rashee Rice could make that start even slower here.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see this game stay low-scoring and for the Chiefs to have to mount a late comeback. Falcons to cover.

Buffalo Bills (+3) at Baltimore Ravens (O/U 46.5) Week 4

Adding Derrick Henry to a Ravens offense that already had Lamar Jackson will make the Baltimore running attack hard to deal with, as long as both Henry and Jackson stay healthy.

They should still be healthy in Week 4. The Bills’ offense will still be figuring out how to score big without Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. Ravens to win and cover.

^

Dallas Cowboys (-1.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (O/U 43) Week 5

The Steelers have a stout defense, and they play well at home. Russell Wilson will be an interesting addition at quarterback, and Najee Harris can pound the ball on the ground.

Dallas’ defense has had problems stopping the run the past few years.

Dallas’ offense will struggle in the running game after losing Tony Pollard, putting more pressure on Dak Prescott in the passing game. Steelers to cover.

^

Cincinnati Bengals (-4.5) at N.Y. Giants (O/U 44) Week 6

Without Saquon Barkley carrying the ball, the Giants’ offense is likely to have real problems moving the ball.

Devin Singletary has success in the past but seems to be on the downward slope of his career timeline.

Cincinnati has a revamped O-line and a healthy Joe Burrow, so they should be able to move the ball fairly easily. Bengals to win and cover.

N.Y. Jets (-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (O/U 43) Week 7

The Jets’ defense returns, led by Sauce Gardner and his shutdown corner skills.

The offense should be ready to rock with Aaron Rodgers back and healthy and Breece Hall carrying the ball with confidence after his injury rehab.

The Steelers’ defense will help keep this point total low, but the Jets should be able to find opportunities to get into the end zone. Jets to win and cover.

^

Dallas Cowboys (+5.5) at San Francisco 49ers (O/U 46.5) Week 8

This matchup came in Week 5 last year and led to a 42-10 demolition at the hands of the 49ers.

The Cowboys have lost quality at tailback, O-line and at two levels of their defense, choosing to sign retreads and rely on rookies instead of bringing in quality free agents.

The 49ers have largely stood pat in their off season. I don’t see this game turning out much differently this season. 49ers to win and cover.

^

Jacksonville Jaguars (+4.5) at Philadelphia Eagles (O/U 47) Week 9

The Eagles have two new coordinators and also have a rejuvenated Jalen Hurts at quarterback.

They brought in Saquon Barkley to carry the ball, and their injuries on defense have had the off-season to heal.

The Jaguars extended Trevor Lawrence, but I’m not sure if they have the weapons to win this game in Philadelphia. Eagles to win and cover.

Detroit Lions (+1.5) at Houston Texans (O/U 50) Week 10

This game features a point total approaching what you see in a lot of college games.

Some of this has to do with the Lions’ reputation for giving up a lot in the passing game; some of this has to do with all the weapons the Texans have on offense.

The Lions won some tough road games last year and will be even better this season, while the Texans are still building into a contender-level franchise. Lions to cover.

^

Indianapolis Colts (+4) at N.Y. Jets (O/U 45.5) Week 11

How will Anthony Richardson be faring for the Colts by this point in the season? Last year, he started four games as a rookie but didn’t finish any of them due to injuries.

How will tailback Jonathan Taylor deal with his carry volume? Will Aaron Rodgers still be healthy for the Jets after rehabbing his Achilles tendon for most of last season?

With all of these questions, I’m not betting on this game yet. Based on who is healthy now, the Jets should be able to manage this game, though. Jets to win and cover.

^

Philadelphia Eagles (PK) at L.A. Rams (O/U 47.5) Week 12

The Eagles should be back on a roll toward an NFC East title by this point, while the Rams’ defense will be struggling to deal with opposing offenses due to losses on their defense. Eagles to win and cover.

^

San Francisco 49ers (-1.5) at Buffalo Bills (O/U 47) Week 13

The weather should be turning wintry in Buffalo by this point in the season, which will present some difficulties for the fair-weather 49ers.

San Francisco’s running game and defense are strong, but the hard-nosed Bills’ defense will hold their own, and Josh Allen will make enough plays to help the Bills come out ahead. Bills to cover.

L.A. Chargers (+6.5) at Kansas City Chiefs (O/U 43.5) Week 14

The Chargers have pushed the Chiefs hard for two seasons now, only to have bad luck take over late and get wins.

Jim Harbaugh should have the Chargers more buttoned-up than Brandon Staley did, and having more balance in the Chargers’ offense should help them get the split. Chargers to cover.

^

Green Bay Packers (-1) at Seattle Seahawks (O/U 46) Week 15

Can Geno Smith put it together as a franchise quarterback? Can the Packers keep that upward trajectory they started with Jordan Love last year?

I’m more likely to believe in the Packers’ rise at this point. Packers to win and cover.

^

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+5.5) at Dallas Cowboys (O/U 46.5) Week 16

Is Baker Mayfield back to being the franchise quarterback who led Cleveland to a playoff win in Pittsburgh?

It looked like it at the end of the 2023 season and in the Bucs’ wild-card demolition of the Philadelphia Eagles.

But can he deal with a defense that will have the pass rush that Dallas will have? Cowboys to win and cover.

^

Miami Dolphins (+2) at Cleveland Browns (O/U 43.5) Week 17

A pass-heavy offense like Miami’s will likely suffer in the cold (and possibly wet) weather in Cleveland.

The Browns should have a stout offense if Nick Chubb is still healthy at this point, and their defense is still ironclad. Browns to win and cover.
