We’re just a few days away from Super Bowl LVI, and one of the more interesting sports betting props available to you is the Most Valuable Player of the game. Most of the time, the quarterback of the winning team gets the award – as has happened in seven of the last 10 Super Bowls. However, now and then another player (usually on the winning offense) gets the nod, which is why you have so many different players on the odds list.
Take a look at the updated odds for each Super Bowl MVP contender, along with some of our insights on the choices.
NFL News: Super Bowl MVP Odds
Matthew Stafford (+125)
Stafford is the quarterback of the team favored to win, so it makes sense that he would be the betting favorite. When he has been on, the Rams’ offense has been hard to stop, as he has developed a solid connection with Odell Beckham Jr to go along with his almost extrasensory link with Cooper Kupp. The only knock on Stafford is his propensity to turn the ball over; in his last seven games, Stafford has thrown nine picks, and the team fumbled four times in the divisional round against Tampa Bay. He should have had a tenth pick against San Francisco in the NFC Championship that would likely have handed the 49ers the win, but Jaquiski Tartt dropped the fluttering duck, allowing the Rams’ drive to continue.
Joe Burrow (+235)
This is the quarterback of the underdog in the game, but he has shown time and time again, particularly in the last third of the regular season and these playoffs, that he can overcome the odds. Personally, I think the Bengals pull off another upset and take this win, which means, on my odds list, Burrow is the favorite to win the MVP. He also offers more value than Stafford. Even when he’s been under intense pressure, he has not turned the ball over at the rate Stafford has, and he has simply absorbed punishment only to get back out on the field and lead lethal scoring drives.
Cooper Kupp (+600)
If you think the Rams are going to win, this is a pick that offers value. Kupp has been the one breaking the big plays for the Rams in the playoffs, and he had the receiving triple crown (yards, catches and touchdowns) for the regular season. Stafford will find Kupp multiple times, and those connections could be what deliver the Rams a title.
Aaron Donald (+1000)
Yes, defensive players do get the MVP award, and Donald is the sort of elite talent who could make some game-changing plays. It would take at least a couple of strip-sacks, or perhaps a pick-six, by Donald to win the MVP, as long as the Bengals’ offense gets shut down in the process. Remember, though, that Tennessee sacked Joe Burrow nine times in the divisional round – and lost.
Ja’Marr Chase (+1500)
Chase scored 13 times in the regular season, and while his production has dipped a bit in the postseason due to the increased defensive attention he has been getting, he has still made some explosive ways. Burrow has found Tee Higgins more often than in the regular season, thanks to the coverage Chase is drawing, but this is an interesting pick if you think Burrow and Chase can convert their connection despite Jalen Ramsey covering Chase for much of the game.
Odell Beckham Jr (+2500)
Cam Akers, Joe Mixon, Von Miller (+3500)
Evan McPherson (+4500)
Tee Higgins, Jalen Ramsey (+5000)
Kendall Blanton (+7000)
Sony Michel (+7500)
Tyler Higbee (+8000)
Tyler Boyd, Van Jefferson, Trey Hendrickson (+10000)
Samaje Perine, Sam Hubbard (+15000)
