I assume that most of you reading this have some level of knowledge about the different types of wagers that are available to you when betting on sports. If that describes you, then allow me to apologize in advance for what you are about to read. I am going to talk a little bit about the parlay, simply because there are sure to be a lot of people placing a bet for the first time on Super Bowl XLIX this Sunday, and new bettors may not be aware of the many different ways in which they can add a little extra to their winnings.

What Is A Parlay Bet?

In a parlay bet, you are essentially placing a wager on multiple different outcomes with a single bet. While it’s a much more difficult and risky bet to play, it is also one that can reward you with some real profits when you get it right. During the course of the regular season, you might pick 2 or 3 teams that you like to win that particular weekend and put them into a parlay bet. You are probably wondering how this is possible when there is only a single game being played on Sunday. The answer is simple, and it all comes down to choosing different betting options available for the game and putting them into a single bet.

How To Parlay One Game

Let’s imagine for a moment that you like the New England Patriots to win straight up and cover the spread, and that you also believe the point total will be OVER the 47.5 points set by the bookies. The odds on each of those individual bets is -110, which means that you would win $90.91 on a $100 bet if each individual bet came up, giving you a profit of $272.73. Not bad, but not as good as what you would get if you played a parlay that featured all three of those picks on a single ticket. For a $100 parlay bet that won, you would get $595.79 in profit. That is quite the difference. Of course, you don’t have to go with three or four choices on your parlay, as you can do as little as 2 to create a ticket. For example, you may go with New England to win and cover, or Seattle to win and the point total to be UNDER. Look online for a free parlay calculator and play with the odds to see which parlay delivers the odds that you like.
