Sure NFL Betting Losers for Week 1

Sure NFL Betting Losers for Week 1

The first week in the NFL betting season usually brings some surprises, but with each slate of games come some teams that are more likely to be sure losers than others. Let’s take a look at some teams that are just about complete locks to open 0-1.

A Look at the Sure NFL Betting Losers for Week 1

Sunday, September 11: New York Giants at Dallas (-3.5)

The Giants were up by 10 on Dallas in Week 1 last year — at Dallas once again — until Tony Romo led two late touchdown drives (aided by some awful Giant clock management down the stretch). The Cowboys tend to come out of the gate soft and slow, which gives the Giants an advantage here. The Giants will come in without Tom Coughlin at the helm, but I see them still having a mental edge over Dallas. I’m predicting New York to win and cover.

Sunday, September 11: Green Bay at Jacksonville (+4.5)

The Packers have been smarting since they almost came back and beat the Cardinals in Arizona in the divisional round of last season’s playoffs. Now they open against a Jacksonville team that may be slightly better on offense but still does not have a defense capable of dealing with Aaron Rodgers’ passing attack. The off- season has given the Packers’ offensive line time to heal, so I expect them to open the 2016 regular season by whipping the Jaguars. So I am picking Green Bay to win and cover…by a lot.

Sunday, September 11: Buffalo at Baltimore (-2.5)

The Bills were a mess of sound and fury last year…but they folded quite neatly when things counted. The Ravens, on the other hand, were decimated by injury and some bad luck down the stretch in games last year, and John Harbaugh will have them ready to compete when Week 1 rolls around, while Rex Ryan will still be jawing about what might have been last season. So when Buffalo leaves home to take on the Ravens down in Baltimore, Joe Flacco will be recovered and ready to go, while the Bills will still be trying to figure out what Tyrod Taylor has. I am predicting Baltimore to win and cover.

Sunday, September 11: Minnesota (-2.5) at Tennessee

It’s true that the Titans added DeMarco Murray to their backfield and then drafted the reigning Heisman Trophy winner to give their rushing attack two real threats. It’s also true that they still have one of the most gifted young arms in the league in Marcus Mariota. However, they still don’t have a defense, and they find themselves taking on a Vikings team that has been hungering for some redemption since that hooked chip-shot field goal gave Seattle that win in the wild card playoff game last season. Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson return to key a talented offense, and the Vikings have resurrected their Purple People Eater persona on defense as well. I’m picking Minnesota to win and cover. There are other sure losers in Week 1, but Tennessee tops the list for me.
