The Minnesota Vikings ended last season with a 7-9 record that wasn’t actually as bad as it appears. They were forced to play without RB Adrian Peterson due to a suspension, which is not the best scenario when you have a rookie QB at the helm. To his credit, Teddy Bridgewater showed a ton of promise, and the defense did a whole lot better than expected, especially given the pressure they were put under. There are many who see the Vikings as a potential dark horse this year, especially if Peterson can come in and show the type of form that has made him one of the most feared running backs in NFL history. Bridgewater is going to be better now that he has a year under his belt, and you have to feel that he is going to improve his TD to INT (14-12) ratio from last season. This is not a team that anyone is going to take lightly this season.
The 49ers best era since their golden years of the 80’s came with Jim Harbaugh at head coach, but last season saw his tenure come to an end in pretty awful fashion. There was talk of locker room strife, and front office divisions that had to affect what was happening on the field. The end result was an 8-8 season and a sitting out of the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Harbaugh in back in Michigan in the college ranks, and it is Mike Tomsula who has been brought in to take the reins. He must be wondering what he is in for, as some of his best players have moved on, retired, or been forced out due to off field issues. The 49ers are a bit of a mess right now, and the doubts about the ability of QB Colin Kaepernick continue to swirl. This could very well be a long season in San Francisco.
