Team Power Rankings after NFL Week 14

Team Power Rankings after NFL Week 14

Written by on December 17, 2020

Three weeks to go in the NFL’s 2020 regular season! Where will your team end up? In the AFC, there are 11 teams still in: the Jets, Jaguars, Chargers, Texans and Bengals. The Broncos are technically in, but still…in the NFC, all 16 teams are still in, thanks to that woeful NFC East. Obviously, those 27 teams that are still alive will start dwindling quickly, as only 14 teams will get into the postseason.

As you consider your online NFL betting options, take a look at our latest power rankings.

NFL News: Team Power Rankings after Week 14

#1 Kansas City Chiefs (12-1)

The Chiefs didn’t look all that great against Miami. Patrick Mahomes threw three interceptions, more than he had all season, but the Chiefs ran off 30 straight points before holding on late to beat Miami. It’s tough when you’re the Super Bowl champs and everyone else is giving maximum effort against you. Winning ugly is a testament to this team’s strengths, but they need to stop digging themselves holes.

#2 Buffalo Bills (10-3)

Why are the Bills ranked so high? Because they beat a one-loss Pittsburgh team, and they look better than Green Bay and New Orleans right now. Josh Allen is just part of the story, as the defense is coming on strong. In the last five games, Buffalo has held its its opponent under 100 rushing yards four times. Big Ben only threw for 187 yards on 37 attempts, with a pair of interceptions, one a pick-six. Buffalo is 4-0 against these defenses: the Rams, Miami, San Francisco and Pittsburgh.

#3 Green Bay Packers (10-3)

Aaron Rodgers continues to turn back the clock; in a gritty win over Detroit, he went 26 of 33 for 290 yards and three scores without a pick. He now has 39 touchdown passes against just four interceptions, with a league-leading 119.7 passer rating.

#4 New Orleans Saints (10-3)

The loss in Philadelphia may have been more about the Eagles’ collective anger than the Saints’ lack of resolve, but New Orleans has never played well on the road in the cold. Also, the Saints need Drew Brees back.

#5 Pittsburgh Steelers (11-2)

Remember that 11-0 start? It’s starting to fade, and fade fast. Big Ben needs to throw the ball down the field more, instead of settling for dump-offs, to loosen things up for the running game.

#6 Tennessee Titans (9-4)

We see Derrick Henry thundering over people with that stiff-arm in the highlights every week and we see A.J. Brown hauling in highlight-reel catches. Behind them is Ryan Tannehill, who threw for an efficient two touchdowns and 212 yards. He has thrown for 3,209 yards this season in an offense that focuses on the run. Over the last two seasons, he has a 50:11 TD:INT ratio. The Titans are set to surprise more people this postseason.

#7 Los Angeles Rams (9-4)

Love the defense. Love the running game. We just need to know which Jared Goff will show up from one week to the next.

#8 Baltimore Ravens (8-5)

Beating Cleveland on the road after taking on some water in recent weeks was huge for the Ravens’ playoff chances. But if you look how far that team has fallen from Week 1, when they just undressed the Browns, to that prime time melee, we see that Baltimore has plenty of courage — but also plenty of flaws.

#9 Cleveland Browns (9-4)

Browns fans were waiting for their team to turn a corner and beat the Ravens. Despite the loss, the corner has been turned: the Browns are competitors and contenders once again.

#10 Miami Dolphins (8-5)

The Miami defense is opportunistic and never stops working. Their offense is going to keep getting better as Tua Tagovailoa finds himself in a pro passing game.

#11 Indianapolis Colts (9-4)

The defense is spectacular, and the running game can deliver big yards. The offense is a little conservative when the team finds itself behind.

#12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5)

The running game brings a grinding rhythm to games when the O-line is opening holes, and that’s what has set Tom Brady up for success. When the line isn’t working hard enough, though, things get ugly quickly.

#13 Seattle Seahawks (9-4)

Everyone finds a way to get back on track against the Jets, as Seattle did this past week. Consistent execution, from one week to the next, remains the biggest challenge for this team, whose biggest weakness might be its own short attention span.

#14 Arizona Cardinals (7-6)

The Cardinals went to New York and whipped a Giants team that was able to shock Seattle the week before. Kyler Murray found a way to respond to a scheme that was set up to keep him from running, and that kind of growth will help down the stretch.

#15 Washington Football Team (6-7)

This team is a great story, with Ron Rivera and Alex Smith pushing through adversity, but the real news is the defensive front seven, which might be the toughest seven players in the entire NFC East.

#16 New England Patriots (6-7)

Given that the Patriots really don’t have a passing game right now, six wins is a testament to Bill Belichick’s ability to scheme around what he has on the roster at any given time.

#17 Minnesota Vikings (6-7)

Three wins and the Vikings could snag one of those three wild cards in the NFC. That would be terrific for a team that started 1-5.

#18 Las Vegas Raiders (7-6)

Was Derek Carr’s first half of the season a desert mirage? The Raiders need him back down the stretch.

#19 San Francisco 49ers (5-8)

The defense has been strong all season long, keeping the team in games they didn’t really deserve to be in. But how long will Kyle Shanahan stick with Nick Mullens and his turnovers?

#20 New York Giants (5-8)

Winners of four of their last five, this team has established itself as a blue-collar unit with courage on defense and physicality in the running game.

#21 Chicago Bears (6-7)

Mitch Trubisky did show signs of life this past week, but Bears fans have seen that mirage in the past.

#22 Detroit Lions (5-8)

In a way, it’s sad that Matthew Stafford has spent so much of his career with an incomplete roster around him, but the team has perked up after the firing of Matt Patricia.

#23 Philadelphia Eagles (4-8-1)

Can Jalen Hurts carry the Eagles to an NFC East title? He did knock off the New Orleans Saints in his debut. Who is the only other quarterback ever to make a rookie debut and end a winning streak of at least nine games by the opponent in the process? It was another Philadelphia Eagle….Ron Jaworski.

#24 Denver Broncos (5-8)

We just don’t know which Drew Lock will show up from one week to the next, which means the Broncos could throw three picks or five touchdown passes.

#25 Carolina Panthers (4-9)

Teddy Bridgewater has had a better comeback season than the win-loss record indicates. When Matt Rhule installs a defense, the Panthers will be a tough opponent.

#26 Los Angeles Chargers (4-9)

Can the Chargers build a defense to hold the leads that Justin Herbert puts up on offense? That’s the challenge for 2021.

#27 Atlanta Falcons (4-9)

Is it time to move on from Matt Ryan? Franchise quarterbacks are hard to find, but the signs of burnout are clear.

#28 Houston Texans (4-9)

Here’s to hoping that Deshaun Watson has help around him in 2021. The Texans’ front office hasn’t given me a lot of hope, though.

#29 Dallas Cowboys (4-9)

Do you pay Dak Prescott $40 million a year? Do you let him go and let Andy Dalton mentor Justin Fields (assuming he’s still on the draft board) in 2021? Either way, the Cowboys need an O-line, a defense, and a general manager.

#30 Cincinnati Bengals (2-10-1)

Here’s to the return of Joe Burrow in 2021.

#31 Jacksonville Jaguars (1-12)

Can Gardner Minshew lead the Jaguars to a 4-12 finish — and take them out of the Trevor Lawrence / Justin Fields sweepstakes?

#32 New York Jets (0-13)

Three more games until they can draft Trevor Lawrence.
