Top NFL Betting Matchups and Picks for Week 6

Written by on October 9, 2017

There were lots of exciting games in Week 5 of the 2017 NFL season — including a pair of huge comebacks by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers to knock off the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys, respectively. The New England Patriots’ defense finally showed up in their Thursday win over Tampa Bay — but then their offense had some problems moving the ball for the first time. The New York Giants are 0-5 — and it looks like Odell Beckham Jr. may be gone for the season with his latest injury. What can we expect out of Week Six? Take a look at our NFL betting picks and odds for NFL Week 6.

Philadelphia at Carolina (-3) (8:30pm ET, CBS)

The Philadelphia Eagles simply dismantled the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. As impressive as Carson Wentz looked — throwing three touchdown passes in the first quarter alone — the real story was the Philadelphia defense, which never gave Carson Palmer time to set up in the pocket and shut down the Cardinals’ running game as well. Right now, the Eagles look ready to run away with the NFC East. Cam Newton is looking like his old self after the past two weeks. He led the Panthers to an impressive win at New England and then followed that up with a solid performance against an opportunistic Detroit defense. This duel of talented young quarterbacks will definitely be something to watch. I see the Panthers winning (and covering) but it won’t be easy. Latest NFL Betting Trends

Green Bay at Minnesota (NL) (1:00pm ET, FOX)

Sam Bradford is supposed to return to lead the Minnesota offense against Chicago on Monday Night Football tonight. However, rookie tailback Dalvin Cook is already gone for the season — so Bradford could get a ton of pressure — and recovering from a knee injury isn’t the best recipe to prepare you for the Green Bay pass rush. The Packers’ secondary has shown the tendency to give up some big plays, though, so if Bradford gets rolling this could get interesting. Are the Packers a safe betting pick in NFL Week 6? However, all Aaron Rodgers does is turn interesting games into Packer wins with a late rally. The Packers trailed Dallas 21-6 on Sunday, but then Rodgers went back into comeback mode and simply led his team to a 35-31 win, throwing the winning pass to Davante Adams with 11 seconds left. There will be a point in the season when the Packers cannot overcome the problems that their defense causes for them, but I don’t see that happening against a Minnesota team with a one-dimensional offensive attack. I have a hard time picking anyone over Rodgers, particularly in a divisional game. I see the Packers winning here. Latest NFL Betting Trends

Cleveland at Houston (-10.5) (1:00pm ET, CBS)

It’s only taken five weeks for Hue Jackson to lose patience with the DeShone Kizer experiment in Cleveland. When the Browns turned the ball over twice inside the Jets’ 5-yard line this past Sunday, Jackson put Kizer on the bench, putting Kevin Hogan in to start the second half, and Hogan drove the Browns to a touchdown. However, it wouldn’t be enough, as the New York Jets still came away with the victory. The Browns went in seeing a game with also-winless New York as a real opportunity but were unable to take advantage of the situation. Deshaun Watson has shown that he is ready to play quarterback in the NFL. He led the Texans to a 34-point performance against Kansas City. Unfortunately, the Kansas City Chiefs put up 42…and the Texans look to have lost J.J. Watt for the near future, throwing a major wrench in their defense. I would expect to see the Texans clicking once again on offense…and having little trouble dominating the Cleveland offense. I definitely think that the Texans will be taking out some frustrations this week, so despite that big point spread in the line, I’m still taking Houston over the Browns. Latest NFL Betting Trends
