NFL Top Betting Games and Analysis for Week 16

NFL Top Betting Games and Analysis for Week 16

When you think about including games near the end of the NFL regular season in your online betting, there’s a ton of risk involved. First of all, there’s the injury factor. Many teams lose their starting quarterback, starting tailback, and/or other key skill players throughout the season every year, which means that teams that look dominant in July and August end up struggling by the end of the year. There are teams that just have their chemistry break down and end up underperforming – and then there are teams that come out of nowhere to surprise the league. That’s what makes NFL betting on this time of the season even more exciting – so check out our top matchups.

NFL Betting News: Must-Bet Games for Week 16

Buffalo Bills (-1) at L.A. Chargers

Saturday, December 23 | The Buffalo Bills seemed to have a rift on the team when Stefon Diggs went MIA during optional team activities, but some outreach from Josh Allen (and some public praise) has Diggs back in the fold and happy to be with the team. The Bills have put together some solid regular seasons the last few years, taking control of the AFC East in the post-Tom Brady era. Some issues on defense – and with ball security on offense – have kept the Bills from going as far in the playoffs as they might have.

This game takes them across the country to face a Chargers team that is loaded with talent but has also underperformed in recent years. Quarterback Justin Herbert has an elite arm, and he has solid weapons around him. The defense has tended to fold in key games, which is why the Bills are a slight road favorite. This is the time of year when the Bills will drop a crucial regular-season matchup, especially on the road, so I’d take the Chargers here with that point.

Seattle Seahawks (-2) at Tennessee Titans

Sunday, December 24 | Geno Smith has his contract extension, but the way his production dropped the last third of the season, you have to wonder if the NFL has caught up with him. The Seahawks always have a stiff defense, although the secondary has been a bit too generous the last couple of seasons. Seattle can run the ball, so they might use that to control the rhythm of the game. Going on the road, particularly in the Eastern time zone, isn’t always a recipe for success for the Seahawks.

So how are they road favorites at Tennessee? Ryan Tannehill’s career seems to have taken a downward turn in the past couple of seasons. Derrick Henry hasn’t looked like his old self since returning from his foot injury. The team traded their best receiver to Philadelphia in the offseason before the 2022 campaign and didn’t get much in return. The defense hasn’t been able to keep opponents off the board thanks to the team’s reduced time of possession. I’d be more inclined to take the “under” on this game once that comes out, but here I’d take the Titans to cover at home.

Detroit Lions (+1) at Minnesota Vikings

Sunday, December 24 | The Lions played a terrific second half of 2022 and finished 9-8, just on the wrong side of the playoffs. Their Week 18 win at Lambeau Field, in a game where the Lions could not make the playoffs either way but could keep the Packers out of the postseason with a win, showed the mental strength the team has developed.

They will visit a Minnesota team that no longer has Dalvin Cook to pound the ball reliably on the ground. Kirk Cousins remains a talented quarterback who can stack up points, but he is also an enigma who has a way of turning the ball over in key games. At this point in th eseason, the Vikings are usually hanging on for dear life, while the Lions were coming on strong in the second half. I’d take the Lions to cover on the road.
