The Buffalo Bills are one of the teams in the running for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who left the Arizona Cardinals after the 2022 season and is looking for a team that offers him the chance to contend for a title. Hopkins has already visited the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots, but his visit to Buffalo has not yet come as the Bills have not yet been able to commit to paying Hopkins at the top of the free-agent market. In Week 4, the Bills host the Miami Dolphins, one of several contests you should consider in your NFL betting for the first weekend in October.

Miami Dolphins vs Buffalo Bills
When: Sunday, October 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Bills Stadium, Orchard Park, NY
TV / Streaming: CBS
The Dolphins had some elite names on defense in 2022, but a combination of system problems and injuries kept them from performing up to their abilities. Vic Fangio comes to town as the new defensive coordinator, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey arrives to stabilize the secondary. A signing that might be even more important is the addition of linebacker David Long, Jr., to add some solidity to the middle of the Miami defense.
In Buffalo, Josh Allen led the NFL in team touchdown percentage last year (84%), but the consistency of the offense wore down as the regular season came to an end, punctuated by the Bills’ shockingly tame loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the playoffs. In the draft, the Bills took tight end Dalton Kincaid with their first pick, giving Allen a sizable target in the center of the field. Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harty and Justin Shorter, who came in the fifth round of the draft, adds depth to the receiver group, and drafting O’Cyrus Torrence in the second round (and adding some other free agents) gives the interior O-line more depth. Bills to win and cover.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Tennessee Titans
When: Sunday, October 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN
TV / Streaming: FOX
The Cincinnati Bengals learned that it’s impossible to win at an elite level without offensive line depth, particularly at the tackle positions, and so they brought in Orlando Brown Jr from Kansas City to start at left tackle. That would move Jonah Williams from left tackle to right tackle, a position that La’el Collins had filled – but Collins’ propensity for injury means that it’s hard to get 17 regular-season games and a full postseason out of him. When Joe Burrow has time in the pocket, he is deadly – and the Bengals have gotten him more time in the pocket.
The Tennessee Titans released center Ben Jones and left tackle Taylor Lewan as part of an O-line rebuild. They brought in Daniel Brunskill and Andre Dillard from San Francisco and Philadelphia, respectively, through free agency, and they drafted Peter Skoronski with the 11th overall pick. They also added Jaelyn Duncan in the sixth round to give the line even more stability; Skoronski should start at either left guard or left tackle, and Duncan will add depth. Bengals to win and cover.

New England Patriots vs Dallas Cowboys
When: Sunday, October 1 at 4:25 pm ET
Where: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
TV / Streaming: FOX
The New England Patriots tried to install a new offense last year, but things didn’t go so well, as the team was dead last in the red zone, 28th in total first downs, and 27th in third-down efficiency. The team only managed 31 offensive touchdowns, down from 48 in 2021. Bill O’Brien has come to take over offensive coordinator duties, so things should improve as Mac Jones enters his third season.
Dallas added Brandin Cooks to their wide receiving group, and they drafted Mazi Smith in the first round to join the defensive line. That unit also got Johnathan Hankins and Dante Fowler (6 sacks in 2022) to join Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Sam Williams, and Dorance Armstrong. In the draft, they added Junior Fehoko in the fourth round, and Chauncey Golston and Osa Odighizuwa, making the line one of the league’s deepest. Cowboys to win and cover.
