We’re just a couple of days away from the wild card round of the NFL playoffs, which means that Super Bowl LV is a matter of weeks down the road. Of the 32 teams that started their pursuit of the Vince Lombardi Trophy back in September, 14 remain in an expanded postseason, as the eight division champions and six wild card teams have advanced.
Let’s take a look at the NFL betting odds for each of those 14 teams to win the Super Bowl.
NFL News: Updated Super Bowl Odds
Kansas City Chiefs | +190 |
Green Bay Packers | +450 |
Buffalo Bills | +700 |
New Orleans Saints | +750 |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +1000 |
Baltimore Ravens | +1100 |
Seattle Seahawks | +1200 |
Pittsburgh STeelers | +2000 |
Los Angeles Rams | +2800 |
Tennessee Titans | +3000 |
Indianapolis Colts | +4000 |
Cleveland Browns | +5000 |
Chicago Bears, Washington Football Team | +8000 |
It makes sense that the 14-2 Kansas City Chiefs would enter the playoffs as the favorite, but a +190 moneyline seems a little low. The Week 17 loss isn’t the issue, as Patrick Mahomes and many of the other team’s starters got a week off. You’ll want to take a look at the availability of Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The rookie tailback went down with ankle and hip injuries in Week 15 and has not played since. His numbers this season were not all that great, but he did add balance to the Kansas City offense. There’s also the fact that the Chiefs have settled for close victories, often coming back at the last second, in the second half of the season. They had to come back from 10 or more points in each of their three postseason wins a year ago, and eventually that will catch up with them.
The Green Bay Packers are an interesting choice, especially with home field advantage all the way to the Super Bowl after that first-round bye. Teams like the Saints and the Buccaneers are likely to struggle in the cold (and possibly snowy) weather at Lambeau Field, and the Packers have shown that they can handle playoff teams after their 26-point beating of Tennessee.
The Buffalo Bills might be the hottest team coming into the playoffs, and they are available for value right now. Josh Allen had three touchdown passes in the first half of a 56-26 beating of Miami in Week 17 — and remember that Miami is a 10-win team that just missed out on the postseason. The Bills can bring punishment to good teams when they need to, and their offense is firing on all cylinders right now.
New Orleans appears to have Drew Brees back in elite form, as he threw three touchdown passes in Week 17, a 33-7 tattooing of the Carolina Panthers. Now the Saints welcome the 8-8 Chicago Bears for a wild card visit. It will be interesting to see if the Saints come out tight after losing at home in their wild card game against Minnesota a year ago. As solid as the Saints have looked on both sides of the ball the last few weeks, they should be able to take down the flawed Bears. But can they cover that ten-point spread? I’m not sure about that at all.
If you want a not-so-sleepy sleeper pick to win the whole thing, take a look at the Baltimore Ravens. They roll into the playoffs on a five-game winning streak (although four of those wins were against dreadful teams). J.K. Dobbins ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns in Week 17 against the Bengals, as the team ran for 404 yards, just the fourth team since 1940 to break the 400-yard rushing barrier. Baltimore will have a full head of steam heading into Tennessee looking for revenge for last year’s home loss in the divisional round, and if that offense keeps rolling, can even the Chiefs stop them?
